2020 Nissan Titan XD Overview

What's New

The 2020 Nissan Titan XD receives its first significant update since the current version debuted in 2016. The XD's engine generates a bit more power and comes with a new nine-speed automatic transmission. Four-wheel drive is now standard, along with the Nissan Safety Shield 360 suite of driver assistance features. The slow-selling King Cab configuration and optional diesel engine have departed.

The dashboard and front console have been reshaped to accommodate larger touchscreens with expanded capabilities. Restyled front and rear fascias provide a more contemporary look.

The Titan XD is designed for buyers want more capability than the standard Titan, but don't need the grunt of a typical heavy-duty pickup.

Choosing Your Nissan Titan XD

As before, the Titan XD comes in five trim levels: S, SV, PRO-4X, SL, and Platinum Reserve. Pricing starts at $46,175 including destination for the base S model and climbs to $66,165 for the Platinum Reserve.

Engine Choices

Every Titan XD carries a 5.6-liter V8 engine with 400 horsepower and 413 pound-feet of torque, up from 390 hp and 394 lb-ft last year. Four-wheel drive with low range is standard. Towing capacity tops out at 11,000 pounds, versus 9,400 for the regular Titan.

The XD is exempt from EPA fuel economy testing, but we expect the new nine-speed automatic transmission will enhance efficiency a bit.

Passenger and Cargo Capacity

The Titan XD S and SV come with a front bench for six-passenger seating. The other trims feature front captain's chairs and a configurable center console, so capacity drops to five. Passenger room is generous in all directions, and the XD's seats are among the most comfortable in this class.

The Titan XD boasts a 6.5-foot bed and a payload capacity of 2,240 pounds. The bed offers 60.4 cubic feet of cargo space.

Safety Features

The standard Nissan Safety Shield 360 system provides front and rear automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, blind-spot monitoring, lane departure warning, automatic high beams, a driver alertness monitor, traffic sign recoginition, and rear parking sensors.

Trims above the S also get adaptive cruise control and rear cross-traffic alert. The PRO-4X and higher add front parking sensors, while the SL and Platinum Reserve get a surround-view camera system.

Connectivity

The Titan XD starts out with an 8-inch touchscreen, six speakers, two front and two rear USB ports, SiriusXM with three months free service, a wi-fi hot spot, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility.

The PRO-4X, SL, and Platinum Reserve come standard with a 9-inch touchscreen, navigation, and a 12-speaker Fender audio system. The larger touchscreen and the navigation system are available on the SV as part of the $2,780 Convenience Package.

S - From $46,175

The S comes with all the basics, like power window and locks, air conditioning, keyless entry, cloth seats, and vinyl flooring covering. Push button start is also standard. Exteriors receive black trim, automatic headlights, and 17-inch steel wheels.

SV - From $49,885

The SV gets body-color trim with chrome accents, LED taillights, and full carpeting inside. Skid plates and front tow hooks enhance the outside, while the interior gains a 7-inch driver information display, mood lighting, and upgraded cloth upholstery.

In addition to the connectivity upgrades, the Convenience Package ($2,780) adds heated front captain's chairs, an eight-way power driver's seat, automatic dual-zone climate control, remote start, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, a power sliding rear window, chrome tow mirrors, 20-inch chrome wheels, and more.

On the practical side, the $1,600 Utility Package equips the SV with a spray-on bedliner, a cargo channel system, LED bed lighting, an electronic tailgate lock, flat-folding rear seats, automatic wipers, and a built-in garage door opener.

PRO-4X - From $55,575

Designed for adventure, the PRO-4X features all-terrain tires, Bilstein off-road shocks, stain-resistant upholstery, and an electronic rear differential. Exterior upgrades include LED headlights and daytime running lights, 18-inch aluminum alloy wheels, fog lights, a power back window, charcoal front and rear bumpers, and an in-bed power outlet. The front captain's chairs are standard, along with the eight-way power driver's seat, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and contrast stitching on the seating and interior trim.

The Convenience Package for the PRO-4X ($3,390) furnishes a leather interior with heated front and rear seats, driver memory settings, a power passenger seat, auto-dimming side mirrors, and a power-adjustable steering wheel. With those features in place, buyers can top off the PRO-4X with the $2,740 Premium Package, featuring heated and ventilated front seats, a panoramic sunroof, and in-bed storage boxes.

SL - From $60,085

The SL takes the Titan XD in a luxury direction with leather upholstery, intelligent climate control, heated front seats, a four-way power passenger seat, a power steering column, wood-tone trim, ambient LED interior lighting, remote start, and memory for the driver's seat, steering wheel, and side mirrors. It adds an abundance of chrome exterior trim, 20-inch chrome wheels, running boards, and auto-dimming side mirrors on the outside.

Only the panoramic sunroof ($1,490) remains optional.

Platinum Reserve - From $66,165

The line-topping Titan XD Platinum Reserve gets the moonroof, a premium leather interior with dark chrome accents, a heated and leather-wrapped steering wheel with a wood insert, and ventilated front seats. Outside are machine-finish dark wheels, a satin finish chrome grille, two-tone paint on the lower body, and chrome and illuminated running boards.

CarsDirect Tip

Nissan has greatly simplified the selection process by making the 4x4 Crew Cab the only configuration for the 2020 Nissan Titan XD. The trims offer the same on-road capability and essential safety features. All you have to worry about is how much comfort and convenience you're willing to pay for, or if you plan on taking your Titan XD off-roading.
