2020 Toyota Corolla Hatchback: Preview, Pricing, Release Date

, Automotive Editor - September 28, 2018

Model Preview

For 2019, Toyota scrapped the Corolla iM and released the all-new Corolla Hatchback. With this all-new model still fresh, we expect the 2020 Toyota Corolla Hatchback to be a carryover.

As a carryover model, we expect no visual changes to the 2020 Toyota Corolla. Buyers will be quick to notice that the current Corolla Hatchback does not carry the same styling as the Corolla Sedan, but this could change because we expect the redesigned Corolla Sedan to arrive in 2020. The same will ring true on the inside as we expect the 2020 Corolla Hatchback to carry on with the same bolstered front seats, floating infotainment screen, slew of available features, and up to 23.3 cubic feet of cargo room.

As a carryover model, we expect the 2020 Corolla Hatchback’s standard features to remain the same. If this is true, it will come standard with LED headlights, daytime running lights and taillights, heated power mirrors, 16-inch twin-spoke alloy wheels, a 4.2-inch multi-information display, 60/40 split-folding rear seat, leather-wrapped steering wheel, Entune 3.0 audio system with six speakers and 8-inch touchscreen, two USB 2.0 charging ports, and more.

We also expect this carryover hatchback to continue with the same powertrain. If this is accurate, it will come standard with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 168 horsepower and 155 pound-feet of torque. This also means the standard transmission would remain a six-speed manual transmission with rev-matching technology or an optional continuously variable transmission.

The IIHS has yet to test the current Corolla Hatchback for safety, but it comes standard with a wide range of active safety features as a part of the Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 system. This includes automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane-tracing assist, lane-departure alert with steering assist, road-edge detection, automatic high-beam headlights, adaptive cruise control, and more. We expect this to remain the same in the 2020 Toyota Corolla Hatchback.

Pricing & Release Date

There is no official word on when the 2020 Toyota Corolla Hatchback will arrive, but we should learn more soon. Stay tuned for updates.

Toyota hasn’t announced pricing details on the 2020 Corolla Hatchback, but with it being a carryover model, we don’t expect it to stray too far from the current model’s MSRP range of $22,010 to $25,010.

The 2020 Corolla Hatchback will compete with the Honda Civic Hatchback, Volkswagen Golf and Hyundai Elantra GT.
