2020 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid OVERVIEW

What's New

The largest change the 2020 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid receives is Android Auto compatibility as standard. While the smartphone integration might not seem like a huge change, Toyota’s been one of the few brands to hold out against having Android Auto in its vehicles, despite offering Apple CarPlay as standard equipment.

All-new last year, the RAV4 Hybrid is arguably the compact hybrid crossover to beat. With a full suite of active safety features, a spacious cabin, and excellent fuel economy, it leaves very little to be desired. Standard all-wheel drive thanks to the hybrid powertrain gives the RAV4 all-weather capability, which is something other electrified compact utility vehicles can’t claim.

Choosing Your Toyota RAV4 Hybrid

The RAV4 Hybrid is available in four trims: LE, XLE, XSE, and Limited. Prices start at $29,220 including destination for the LE Hybrid and climb to $37,750 for the Limited.

Engine Choices

Every Toyota RAV4 Hybrid comes with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that’s paired with an electric motor. Output is rated at 219 horsepower combined. An electronically controlled continuously variable transmission is standard, as is all-wheel drive.

Out of all of the compact hybrid crossovers on the market, the RAV4 is the most fuel-efficient option. It earns an EPA-estimated 41 miles per gallon city, 38 mpg highway, and 40 combined. The Nissan Rogue Hybrid is rated to get up to 34 mpg combined with front-wheel drive and 33 mpg combined with all-wheel drive.

Passenger and Cargo Capacity

The RAV4 Hybrid has seating for up to five. Cargo capacity behind the rear seats measures in at 37.6 cubic feet of space and expands to 69.8 cubic feet of space in total. These figures make the RAV4 Hybrid more spacious than the Rogue Hybrid.

Safety Features

Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 is standard on the Toyota RAV4 Hybrid. The suite of safety features includes forward collision warning, pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane keeping assist, adaptive cruise control, automatic high beams, traffic sign recognition.

Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are part of an available $590 package for the base LE trim and standard elsewhere. Front and rear parking sensors are standard on the Limited and available on the XSE as part of a $2,260 package. The $1,025 Technology Package brings a 360-degree camera on the Limited.

A 7-inch touchscreen is standard on the RAV4 Hybrid and includes a six-speaker audio system, one USB ports, Bluetooth, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, Amazon Alexa, satellite radio, and wi-fi hot spot capability.

All other trims but the base are equipped with five USB ports. The XSE and Limited come with an 8-inch touchscreen, and the Limited's is equipped with navigation.

LE - From $29,220

The LE Hybrid comes with 17-inch wheels, LED headlights and taillights, roof rails, dual-zone climate control, cloth upholstery, and remote keyless entry as standard. The front seats are manually adjustable, six ways for the driver and four for the passenger.

XLE - From $30,515

Standard features on the XLE Hybrid include automatic headlights, fog lights, heated side mirrors, push-button start, a rear cargo area cover, and an eight-way power driver's seat.

Heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, and rain-sensing windshield wipers are available with the XLE Cold Weather Package ($925). A power liftgate and a power moonroof are offered through the XLE Convenience Package ($1,265).

XSE - From $35,170

Going with the XSE Hybrid brings more comfort features and a sportier design as standard. A two-tone exterior paint job, black exterior trim, 18-inch wheels, a moonroof, a power liftgate, a 7-inch driver information display, partial leatherette upholstery, and heated front seats are standard.

Navigation and an 11-speaker JBL audio system are bundled together for $1,620. You can add front and rear parking sensors, rear automatic braking, and wireless charging for a grand total of $2,260.

Limited - From $37,750

The Limited Hybrid is differentiated by chrome exterior trim pieces, puddle lights, leatherette seating, dark brown interior trim and stitching, and memory functionality for the driver's seat.

A heated steering wheel, heated and ventilated front seats, heated rear outboard seats, and rain-sensing windshield wipers are bundled in the Limited Grade Cold Weather Package ($1,015). The Limited Grade Advanced Technology Package ($1,025) adds a hands-free power liftgate, a surround-view camera system, and wireless charging.

CarsDirect Tip

The 2020 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid has everything modern consumers are looking for in a compact crossover. The XLE trim is a good starting point, as it’s a reasonable jump in pricing over the base LE trim and opens the door for a lot more packages.
