2020 Volvo S60: Preview, Pricing, Release Date

Model Preview

Volvo released a redesigned S60 for 2019, giving it an S90-inspired look, a refined interior, and new powertrain options. With this redesign entering just its second model year, we expect the 2020 Volvo S60 to hit showrooms as a carryover model.

Being a carryover model, we expect the 2020 Volvo S60 to continue with the same clean design that trickled down from the S90 in 2019. This new look will continue to feature striking Thor’s Hammer headlights, U-shaped taillights, and a smooth profile with few hard angles.

Inside, we expect the 2020 S60 to carry on with the same clean look the 2019 model introduced. This will include a large infotainment screen, minimal buttons and knobs, large air vents, an abundance of horizontal lines and some of the most comfortable seats in the segment.

With no changes in appearance, we also expect the 2020 S60 to carry on with the same standard features. If this proves true, we expect the 2020 S60 to come standard with a 9-inch touchscreen, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, 13-speaker audio system, semi-autonomous parking, and much more.

Under its hood, we expect things to remain mostly the same. We expect the 2020 Volvo S60 to come standard with a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that will produce 250 horsepower. Next up will be the T6 powertrain, a 2.0-liter turbocharged and supercharged 2.0-liter with 316 hp. The T8 powertrain will add a plug-in-hybrid system to the 2.0-liter turbocharged and supercharged engine for a total of 400 hp.

2019 Volvo S60

The only unknown in the powertrain department is whether the Volvo S60 will get the same B5 mild-hybrid powertrain already confirmed for future XC90 and XC60 models. Since it’s already planned as part of the Volvo family, we will likely see this powertrain in the S60 at some point down the road, but Volvo has not confirmed it for a U.S. arrival in time for the 2020 model year.

The new-generation Volvo S60 has not been through IIHS testing yet, but with the automaker’s stellar safety history and the 2019 S60’s plethora of standard safety features like automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert, we expect at least a Top Safety Pick rating. We expect this to carry on unchanged in the 2020 Volvo S60.

Pricing & Release Date

There is no official release date for the 2020 Volvo S60. Pricing also remains uncertain, but with no changes coming, we expect it to stay close to the current S60’s range of $36,795 to $55,395 (destination fees included).

The 2020 S60 will compete with the Audi A4, BMW 3-Series, and Mercedes-Benz A-Class.
