The Buick Envision was one of the brand’s most modern crossovers when it arrived in 2016, but a lack of changes and a fast-changing segment has left this model lagging. Buick aims to propel it back to the forefront with the all-new redesigned 2021 Envision.
Visually, the 2021 Buick Envision will be a far cry from the last-generation model, as it’ll gain new, more aggressive body lines to better compete with luxury automakers and other updates. Up front, these updates will include squinty headlights, a wider grille, enlarged air inlets on the bumper, and a longer hood with three distinct ridges. Down the sides, the 2021 Envision will gain a smooth scallop on the lower portions of the doors, a slight flare to the rear wheel arches, and a sleeker roofline. Around back, the taillights squint to match the headlights. The rear bumper is also new and boasts integrated trapezoidal exhaust outlets.
Buick has released no interior images or descriptions, but we expect a full overhaul here too. Buick did, however, announce the 2021 Envision will gain an optional rear camera mirror, an available 10-inch touchscreen, and a wide range of in-vehicle apps, including Amazon Alexa, Spotify, Pandora, and Fox Sports. Android Auto and Apple CarPlay will remain standard.
The 2021 Envision will mark the first year this model receives Buick’s range-topping Avenir trim. Buick hasn’t revealed details on this decked-out model, but we expect larger wheels, upgraded leather and seats, and all the tech gadgets buyers expect of a near-luxury crossover.
Buick hasn’t released many details surrounding the 2021 Enclave’s powertrain, but it confirmed a standard 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine and a nine-speed automatic transmission. The current model has an optional 252-horsepower 2.0-liter turbocharged engine. Perhaps Buick will shift this to being standard and increase its output slightly.
One common complaint on the current Envision is its pricey active safety technology. Buick aims to fix this in the 2021 Envision by including standard automatic emergency braking, front pedestrian braking, lane-keep assist, lane-departure warning, forward collision alert, following distance indicator, rear park assist, safety alert seat, and a high-definition rearview camera. There are no safety ratings available on the 2021 Envision yet.
