Expert Rating

Not Available

Unlike other websites and magazines, our ratings are not based solely on a singular road test, but rather a more encompassing batch of criteria: quality, safety, comfort, performance, fuel economy, reliability history and value. When comparing vehicles using our Rating System, it's important to note that the rating earned by each vehicle correlates only to the models within its class. For example, a compact car cannot be compared to a SUV—They are different vehicles altogether.

You can interpret our ratings in the following way:

5-Star: Outstanding vehicle. Only the most exceptional vehicles achieve this rating.

4-Star: Very Good vehicle. Very good and close to being the best vehicle in its class.

3-Star: Good vehicle. Decent, but not quite the best. Often affordable, but lacking key features found in vehicles of the same class.

2-Star: Below average vehicle. Not recommended, and lacking attributes a car buyer would come to expect for the price.

1-Star: Poor vehicle. Simply does not deserve to be on the road.

2021 Hyundai Elantra Hybrid: Model Preview

Model Preview

Just four years after the current-generation Elantra debuted, the seventh-generation 2021 Elantra has arrived with an all-new look that draws inspiration from the midsize Sonata. With this look comes the all-new 2021 Elantra Hybrid.

The all-new 2021 Hyundai Elantra Hybrid ushers in a brand-new look that takes the Sonata’s dramatic theme and expands upon it. The 2021 Elantra Hybrid boasts a sharp-looking body with a long hood that features prominent ridges, a powerful grille flanked by aggressive headlights, eye-grabbing angles up front and down the sides, and more. Around back, the all-new Elantra Hybrid features a tapered design with horizontal outer taillights connected by a full-length LED bar to create an “H” design.

In terms of size, the 2021 Elantra Hybrid is 2.2 inches longer, 1 inch wider, and 0.8 inches lower than the 2020 model. It also rides atop a 0.8-inch-longer wheelbase.

Inside, the 2021 Elantra Hybrid continues borrowing from the Sonata with its unique four-post steering wheel and dash-top touchscreen. The all-new Elantra takes a sporty interior stance overall with its T-shaped shifter and rising passenger side of the center console that envelopes the passenger. This cabin also includes available dual 10.25-inch screens (one for the gauge cluster and one for the infotainment system), slim vents, 64-color mood lighting, coupelike door trim, two-tone color scheme, and more.

In roominess, the 2021 Elantra Hybrid’s interior gains 2.3 inches of rear leg room, bringing it to 38 inches. It also sees tiny expansions in front leg room, front headroom, and front and rear shoulder room.

As for standard tech, the 2021 Elantra Hybrid includes an 8-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Bluetooth, a rearview camera, SiriusXM, BlueLink, dual-zone climate control, a proximity key, and more. Buyers can add the dual 10.25-inch screens, a wireless smartphone charger, a Bose audio system, and more.

Hyundai Elantra Hybrid

Under its hood lies the Elantra’s first-ever hybrid powertrain that pairs a 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine and 32 kW electric motor for a combined 139 horsepower and 195 pound-feet of torque. This power heads through a six-speed dual-clutch transmission and out to the front wheels. Hyundai expects the 2021 Elantra Hybrid to deliver 50 miles per gallon combined.

Safety will continue as a focus for Hyundai in the 2021 Elantra Hybrid. The entire lineup will include standard automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane-keeping assist, lane-keep assist, automatic high-beam headlights, a rearview camera with dynamic guidelines, and more. Buyers can add blind-spot monitors, adaptive cruise control, highway-driving assistant, reverse automatic emergency braking, and more.

Pricing & Release Date

The 2021 Hyundai Elantra will hit showrooms in the fourth quarter of 2020.

The Elantra Hybrid will come in two trim levels, SEL and Limited, with starting prices of $24,595 and $29,095 (destination fees included), respectively.

The 2021 Hyundai Elantra Hybrid will compete with the Toyota Corolla Hybrid, Honda Insight, and Toyota Prius.
