2021 Mercedes-Benz Metris-Class Overview
Choosing Your Mercedes-Benz Metris-Class
The Metris comes in two configurations: Cargo Van and Passenger Van. The cargo version starts at $34,125 including destination, and the passenger model is priced from $38,335.
Every Metris is powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that produces 208 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. A new nine-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters sends power to the rear wheels.
The Cargo Van is EPA-rated at 21 miles per gallon city, 24 mpg highway, and 22 combined. Estimates for the Passenger Van are slightly lower at 20/24/21 (city/highway/combined).
The Cargo Van has a payload capacity of 2,668 pounds, while the Passenger Van handles up to 2,150 pounds. Both models can tow up to 5,000 pounds.
Passenger and Cargo Capacity
The Cargo Van seats two and offers 183 cubic feet of cargo space with the standard 126-inch wheelbase. With the optional 135-inch wheelbase ($525), capacity increases to 199 cubic feet. The standard swing-out rear doors open up to 270 degrees to facilitate loading. Doors that open at 180 degrees are available at a credit of $124. Buyers can order a liftgate instead for $497.
The Passenger Van starts out with seating for seven in three rows and 180-degree rear doors. Seating for eight is available for $406. Either way, there are 37.4 cubic feet of cargo space. For a credit of $578, the Metris can be had in a two-row, five-passenger configuration with 97.3 cubic feet behind the rear seat. The liftgate remains available, but not the 270-degree doors or extended wheelbase.
The Cargo Van comes standard with a driver alertness monitor and crosswind stabilization assist. The $1,289 Safety Package adds blind-spot monitoring, a first aid kit, automatic wipers, a 4.2-inch driver information display, heated power side mirrors, and multifunction leather-wrapped steering wheel. Automatic emergency braking and adaptive cruise control are available together for $915. Individual options include lane keeping assist ($523) and a rearview camera mirror ($57).
The Passenger Van is available with a Premium Safety Package ($1,824) that includes everything in the Cargo Van's Safety Package, plus lane-keeping assist. A rearview camera mirror is a no-cost option, but adaptive cruise control and automatic braking aren't available yet on passenger models.
Every Metris now comes with a 7-inch touchscreen, an AM/FM receiver, front speakers, a USB port, Bluetooth, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility.
Navigation is part of the $901 Driver Efficiency Package for the Passenger Van. It's a $400 standalone option on the Cargo Van.
The Cargo Van starts out with front air conditioning, power windows and locks, a sliding passenger-side door, and 16-inch steel wheels. A second sliding door on the driver side costs $799, and 17-inch alloy wheels are available for $802. Second-row windows are $143 apiece.
The Driver Comfort Package ($536) adds additional seat padding and adjustable lumbar support. Heated seats and windshield washers come in the $549 Cold Weather Package. The Driver Efficiency Package ($685) provides fog lights, cruise control, a storage tray in the lower console, and two extra sets of keys. Automatic front and rear climate control costs $632.
The Metris Passenger Van comes with dual sliding doors, second and third-row windows, and rear air conditioning. In addition to the upgraded front seats, the Driver Comfort Package ($776) adds a comfort-tuned suspension and front seatback storage nets. Power front seats are available for $1,254.
The Premium Interior Package ($800) adds full carpeting, courtesy lighting, an overhead console, and chrome dash accents. There's also a Premium Exterior Package with body-color bumpers, a chromed grille, and roof rails for $807 (these are available separately on both models). A high-output air conditioner with automatic control costs $1,060, and power sliding side doors are available for $1,340.
If company image matters, we highly recommend the body-color bumpers and chrome grille on any 2021 Mercedes-Benz Metris-Class. They do wonders for the van's appearance for under $500.
