What's New
The 2022 Audi A5 line continues with minor equipment revision only. The current A5 debuted in 2018 and received a styling update in 2020.
Choosing Your Audi A5
The A5 starts out as a coupe-styled, four-door called Sportback, available in three trims: Premium, Premium Plus, and Prestige. Pricing starts at $44,545 including destination and goes to $55,145 for the Prestige before options. The sporty S5 variant is available in the same trims, priced from $55,945. The high-performance SR 5 comes in a single trim level comparable to the Prestige, priced at $77,245.
The A5, S5, and RS 5 are available in two-door Coupe form, which costs about the same as the Sportback. The A5 and S5 also come in a Cabriolet (convertible) body style, starting at $52,845 and $65,045, respectively.
Engine Choices
The A5 Sportback comes standard with a turbocharged four-cylinder engine. A high-output version is available on the Sportback for $2,100 and is standard on the Coupe and Cabriolet. Every S5 carries a turbocharged V6, and the RS 5 gets a high-output version of the same engine.
The four-cylinders are paired with a seven-speed automatic transmission, while the V6 engines use an eight-speed automatic. Audi's Quattro all-wheel-drive system is standard on all models
Engine Type | Horsepower | Torque | Fuel Economy (Combined) |
2.0L Turbo 4-Cylinder | 201 hp | 261 lb-ft | 28 mpg |
2.0L Turbo 4-Cylinder | 261 hp | 369 lb-ft | 27 mpg |
3.0L Turbo V6 | 349 hp | 443 lb-ft | 24 mpg |
3.0L Turbo V6 | 444 hp | 590 lb-ft | 21 mpg |
Passenger and Cargo Capacity
The Sportback can accommodate five passengers, while the Coupe and Cabriolet carry four.
Thanks to its hatchback design, the Sportback offers 21.8 cubic feet of cargo space behind the rear seat and 35 cubic feet with it folded. The Coupe's conventional trunk holds 10.9 cubic feet, and Cabriolet manages just 9.3.
Safety Features
The Premium trim includes lane departing warning, automatic high beams, and automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection. The $1,800 Convenience Package adds a motion-sensing vehicle alarm, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, and front and rear parking sensors. These items are standard on the Premium Plus, along with adaptive cruise control and a surround-view camera. The Prestige adds a head-up display.
Connectivity
The standard infotainment system offers a 10.1-inch touchscreen, 10 speakers, two USB ports, wireless Apple CarPlay, and wired Android Auto. Satellite radio is included in the Premium's Convenience Package and comes standard on the other trims.
Moving to the Prestige Plus brings wireless device charging and unlocks two major upgrades: navigation ($1,500) and a 14-speaker Bang & Olufsen sound system ($950). All of these features are standard on the Prestige.
A5 Premium — MSRP From $44,545
The Premium comes luxuriously equipped with features like leather upholstery, heated power front seats, a panoramic sunroof, a powerlift gate, tri-zone automatic climate control, and wood interior trim. LED headlights and 18-inch alloy wheels are also standard.
In addition to its aforementioned features, the Convenience Package provides a heated steering wheel, driver memory, proximity key access, and power-folding side mirrors.
A5 Premium Plus — MSRP From $49,445
The Premium Plus receives matrix design headlights, fully digital instrumentation, and everything in the Convenience Package as standard. Buyers can select a Warm Weather Package ($1,300) with ventilated front sport seats with power lumbar controls. The Black Optic Plus Package, also $1,300, adds 19-inch wheels, gloss black exterior trim, red brake calipers, and aluminum interior trim.
A5 Prestige — MSRP From $55,145
The Prestige comes standard with the Warm Weather Package and laser-enhanced headlights. The Black Optic Package continues as an option.
The Sportback body style clearly wins on versatility and looks sexy enough despite the presence of four doors. The Premium packs a lot of luxury into its price, but we still consider the Premium Plus the best value.
