Model Preview

The Cadillac XT4 will enter its fourth model year without major change. Like the current version, the 2022 XT4 will be available with Cadillac's Super Cruise semi-autonomous driving system, sophisticated technology for an entry-level luxury vehicle. Bolstered by attractive pricing and premium looks, the small crossover has performed well for Cadillac since its 2019 introduction and will likely be a carryover model.

Style counts for more than utility in this class, and the XT4 delivers with dramatic front and rear lighting, a power-dome hood, and a sharply angled liftgate. The XT4 seats five in two rows and offers up to 48.9 cubic feet of cargo space, about the same as a hatchback.

Despite being Cadillac's cheapest crossover, the XT4 comes standard with remote start, power front seats, four USB ports, full LED exterior lighting, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Satellite radio and wi-fi capability are also standard. The sweet spot for most buyers will be the mid-level Premium Luxury trim, which carries a leather- and wood-trimmed interior, a hands-free power liftgate, and automatic wipers.

Buyers can ratchet up the luxury quotient with features like massaging front seats, a dual-pane sunroof, and a 13-speaker Bose Centerpoint surround-sound system. For enhanced performance, the Sport trim is available with an adaptive sport-tuned suspension.

The 2022 XT4 will be powered by the carryover turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, good for 237 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. The XT4 starts out with a nine-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive. All-wheel drive is optional on all trims.

The base price includes forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, and rear parking sensors. The Premium Luxury and Sport also get front parking sensors, lane change assist, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert. Advanced driver assistance features are bundled into reasonably priced option packages.

Upgrades include adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist, reverse automatic braking, a rearview camera mirror, surround vision, and an automated parking system. With the addition of Super Cruise, the XT4 can travel a predetermined route without driver inputs for steering, braking, or acceleration.

The XT4 earns a five-star overall safety rating from NHTSA.

Pricing & Release Date

We expect the 2022 Cadillac XT4 to arrive in late summer 2021.

Pricing will likely stay close to current levels. The 2021 XT4 trims range from $36,790 to $40,990 before options.

The XT4 will compete with the Mercedes GLA-Class, Audi Q3, and Volvo XC40.
