The Chevrolet Camaro arrived in 2016 as a fully redesigned model with a much more modern design than previous model years. Entering its seventh model year on sale, we expect the 2022 Chevrolet Camaro to be a carryover model.
When Chevrolet unveiled the 2016 Camaro, it introduced a modern, aggressive design for the sports car. In 2019, Chevy updated the Camaro’s design, which we expect to remain the same for 2022. The Camaro will have thin headlights, a wide air intake, and a bulging hood at the front. The rectangular taillights, large exhaust pipes, and chiseled rear bumper further help the current Camaro’s angry look.
On the inside, the current Camaro’s design is a unique mix of old and new. The design of the dashboard over the instrument cluster and chrome interior trim pieces are style elements that look like they've been taken from the classic muscle car. Small window openings and a low seating position make the current Camaro hard to see out of but contribute to the vehicle’s sporty interior layout. We expect the 2022 Camaro to share a lot of the same interior design elements as the current model.
When it comes to tech features, the 2022 Camaro should come with the same standard equipment as the current model. A 7-inch touchscreen, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, Wi-Fi hot spot, Bluetooth, and a six-speaker audio system are expected to be standard. A larger 8-inch touchscreen, a wireless charging pad, navigation, and a Bose audio system will continue to be available.
Chevrolet is expected to offer four engines with the 2022 Camaro. A turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that makes 275 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque will be standard. The engine is paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. A 3.6-liter V6 engine is the next step up and is rated at 335 hp and 284 lb-ft of torque. SS trims come with a 6.2-liter V8 that produces 455 hp and 455 lb-ft of torque. A supercharged version of the V8 engine is available that makes 650 hp and 650 lb-ft of torque. V6 and V8 engines come with a 10-speed automatic transmission, while a six-speed manual transmission is offered with every engine.
The current Camaro doesn’t offer much when it comes to standard safety features and we expect that to remain the case for 2022. A rearview camera and a teen driver system will be standard. Advanced driver-assist features like forward collision warning, blind-spot monitoring, a head-up display, rear cross-traffic alert, and rear parking sensors will be optional.
Pricing & Release Date
Chevrolet hasn’t made any announcements on the 2022 Camaro’s official release date. Based on previous years, we expect a summer 2021 on-sale date. Rumors point to the next Camaro redesign coming sometime around 2026. However, this has not yet been officially confirmed.
Pricing remains a mystery for the 2022 Chevrolet Camaro. Without any expected changes, we anticipate pricing to remain close to the current model’s range of $25,995 to $71,695 with destination.
This high-performance sports car competes with the Ford Mustang, Dodge Challenger, and Nissan 370Z.
