2022 Chevrolet Equinox: Preview, Pricing, Release Date

Model Preview

Although the Chevy Equinox went through a striking redesign back in 2018, the 2022 model year will bring a refresh to the popular compact crossover.

Despite the fact that it is only a refresh, the 2022 Equinox goes through some dramatic changes in terms of exterior styling. Taking after the Chevy Blazer, the Equinox gains a larger grille and more narrow, slanted headlights to give the front end a much more aggressive look. Around the back, it sees updated taillights and in-bumper exhaust outlets. The 2022 Equinox will also add the popular RS trim which, when equipped, will bring a black grille, darker wheels, and black emblems and badges.

Inside, not much changes from the current Equinox. It will continue to boast a stylish design with plenty of swoopiness on its dash, light color contrasts, a standard 7-inch and optional 8-inch HD touchscreen, a clean HVAC interface, uniquely textured cloth seating, and a sporty three-spoke steering wheel.

Despite the design changes, there will be no changes under the hood. This means the current turbocharged 1.5-liter engine with 170 horsepower and 203 pound-feet of torque will remain the standard engine. The optional engine will be a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder that pumps out 252 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque. The transmissions to remain the same: a six-speed automatic for the base engine and a nine-speed automatic for the 2.0-liter.

The current Equinox is an IIHS Top Safety Pick thanks to its “Good” crash test scores, “Superior”-rated standard automatic emergency braking, and “Acceptable”-rated HID headlights. Oddly enough, the range-topping LED projector headlights received a lower “Marginal” rating. We expect the safety features and ratings to continue unchanged for the 2022 Equinox.

Pricing & Release Date

There is no official on-sale date for the 2022 Chevy Equinox yet, but based on previous release schedules, we expect it to arrive sometime next summer.

Pricing is also still unclear, but we expect the new Equinox’s pricing to remain similar to the current model’s MSRP range of $24,995 to $36,895 (destination fees included).

This compact crossover will compete against the Honda CR-V, Ford Escape, and Mazda CX-5.
