The Chevrolet Suburban arrived in 2021 as an all-new redesign, boasting an independent rear suspension, a more spacious interior, more high-end features, and an available diesel engine. With the SUV set to enter just its second year on showroom floors, we expect the 2022 Chevrolet Suburban to be a carryover model.
When Chevrolet revealed the Suburban, it arrived with fresh sheet metal to bring it into the modern age. After receiving an all-new look in 2021, we expect the 2022 Chevrolet Suburban to retain the same overall design as the current model. Thin headlights, a massive grille, and a tall hood line are standout elements at the front of the SUV. Despite the new design, the current Suburban continues to be a massive box on wheels with an upright rear end.
On the inside, the 2021 redesign brought more interior space than before and a more premium design. The current Suburban features a split dashboard design with clear buttons and dials. The dashboard has clear lines thanks to a push-button shifter. With a flat load floor, the Suburban can seat more cargo than before and has a more spacious third row. We expect the carryover 2022 Chevrolet Suburban to arrive with the same overall interior design.
The current Suburban comes with a 10.2-inch touchscreen, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, eight USB ports, satellite radio, Wi-Fi hot spot, and a six-speaker audio system as standard equipment. Navigation, wireless charging, two 12.6-inch rear touchscreens, and a 10-speaker audio system are available. The same features should carry over for the 2022 model year.
Chevrolet is expected to offer three engines for the 2022 Suburban. The standard engine will be a 5.3-liter V8 that makes 355 horsepower and 383 lb-ft of torque. A 6.2-liter V8 engine will be available, producing 420 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque. A turbocharged 3.0-liter six-cylinder diesel engine is optional. It’s rated at 277 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque. All engines are paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission and come with rear-wheel drive. Four-wheel drive will be optional.
The current Suburban comes with rear parking sensors, forward collision warning, pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, a teen driver system, automatic high-beam assist, and rear-seat alert as standard. Rear cross-traffic alert, front parking sensors, lane-keeping assist, lane departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, and lane change alert are optional on the base LS trim. We expect these safety features to remain the same for the 2022 Suburban.
Pricing & Release Date
Chevrolet has not released any information on when it will officially release the 2022 Suburban. Based on previous years, we expect an arrival date of summer 2021.
Without any expected changes, pricing for the 2022 Chevrolet Suburban shouldn’t change that much. We anticipate things to remain close to the current SUV’s range of $52,995 to $72,095 including destination.
This large SUV will compete with the Ford Expedition Max, GMC Yukon XL, Nissan Armada, and Toyota Land Cruiser.
