2022 Chevrolet Traverse: Preview, Pricing, Release Date

Model Preview

In 2018, the Chevy Traverse went through a significant redesign that brought the automaker’s midsize crossover up to date with others in its class. Now, with a shift toward more rugged looks taking hold, Chevy has updated the 2022 Traverse to better match this new design trend.

While the bulk of the 2022 Chevy Traverse will remain unchanged, there will be significant updates to its front and rear ends. Upfront, the Traverse will boast all-new LED headlights and a bolder front end with C-shaped signature lighting, giving this crossover a more rugged appearance. Around back, it will feature a new fascia that will include a new liftgate applique and updated taillight graphics.

Inside, the 2022 Chevy Traverse will remain mostly unchanged, but there will be a few style and technical updates. The stylistic updates will include updated seating options and a more angular dash topper. On the technical side, the 2022 Traverse will gain a new available two-panel power sunroof, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a new 8-inch driver information center.

Chevrolet Traverse

Chevy made no mention of any updates to the 2022 Traverse’s powertrain, but we expect this to carry over unchanged. If this is the case, the 2022 Traverse will come standard with a 3.6-liter V6 that pumps out 310 horsepower and 266 pound-feet of torque. This will pair with a nine-speed automatic transmission that’ll ship power to the front or all four wheels with optional all-wheel drive.

Safety has been an issue for the Traverse in recent years, as it lacked the standard advanced stay-safe equipment many of its competitors offered. Chevy will address this in the 2022 Traverse, as it’ll come standard with automatic emergency braking, front pedestrian braking, lane-keep assist, lane-departure warning, forward collision warning, automatic high-beam headlights, and a following distance indicator. Buyers seeking more safety gear will be able to add adaptive cruise control to 3LT, RS, and Premier trims. The Safety Alert Seat will be available on Premier and High Country trims.

The current Traverse misses out on being an IIHS Top Safety Pick due to its “Acceptable” and “Poor” headlight ratings. If the updated headlights on the 2022 Traverse can address this issue, it could propel this midsize crossover to a TSP or TSP+ rating.

Pricing & Release Date

There is no firm on-sale date for the 2022 Traverse, but Chevy expects it in showrooms in late 2021.

Pricing also remains unconfirmed at this point, but with this being a refresh, we expect only a small uptick in pricing to cover its new standard safety gear. For reference, the current Traverse ranges from $34,095 to $54,395 (destination fees included).

This midsize people hauler will compete with the Dodge Durango, Ford Explorer, and Toyota Highlander.
