The Honda Insight made its return in 2019 after taking four model years off. Upon its return, the Insight dropped its funky hatchback design with odd-looking wheel skirts in favor of a more Civic-meets-Accord design that elevated the model to a new level of class. Being just its fourth model year since its return, we the 2022 Honda Insight will be a carryover model, but will undergo some trim shuffling.
On the outside, the current Honda Insight delicately balances the elegance of the Honda Accord with a footprint similar to the compact Honda Civic. This gives the Insight a more premium look than many of the more youthful models in the entry-level hybrid segment.
Inside, the Insights more mature design continues with a toned-down cabin that boasts a dapper combination of blacks and metallics. This is all tied in with a thick-rimmed steering wheel, push-button transmission, a shapely but not overdone dash, and a slick available touchscreen infotainment system to create a sharp and modern feel.
The one big change for the 2022 Insight will be the elimination of the base LX trim. This will bring its standard equipment up a notch to include an 8-inch touchscreen, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, two USP ports, and more.
Under its hood, we the 2022 Insight will continue with the same 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine and electric motor that combine to produce 151 horsepower. This will result in the same stellar fuel economy ratings of 55 miles per gallon city, 49 highway, and 52 combined.
The current Insight is an IIHS Top Safety Pick+, and we expect this to remain consistent in 2022. Its standard safety gear is expected to include automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, active lane control, blind-spot monitors, and traffic sign recognition.
