What's New
The 2022 Land Rover Range Rover glides into a new year without any significant gains but loses a few trims and the diesel and plug-in hybrid powertrains are not currently available to order.
Choosing Your Range Rover
The Range Rover is available in five trims: base Range Rover, Westminster, Autobiography, SV Autobiography Dynamic, and SV Autobiography. The long-wheelbase and L versions are available in the Westminster, Autobiography, and standard with the SV Autobiography trim. The base trim starts at $93,350 and the top trim is $212,350.
Engine Choices
The engine lineup delivers high-tech efficiency and boisterous power. The base trim is equipped with the P360 inline-six-cylinder engine and the Westminster trim receives a more version, designated P400, that utilizes the same mild-hybrid setup. Its 48-volt electrical system is powerful enough to spin a “supercharger” to provide a quick response before the mechanical turbocharger is on-board to deliver full power and it also brings instantaneous engine restarts and extended engine-off periods.
The powerful supercharged V8 is also available in two different flavors: P525 and P565. The P525 is optional on the Westminster and is standard on the long-wheelbase version and the Autobiography. The P565 is reserved for the SV trims, which also receive a performance-tuned adaptive suspension.
All engines route power through an eight-speed automatic transmission, and of course, four-wheel drive is standard with a two-speed transfer case, hill-descent control, and low-speed launch. It also includes Terrain Response traction system which incorporates Comfort and Dynamic modes for enhanced on-road performance. The Autobiography and SV models are standard with All-Terrain Progress control, an automatic Terrain Response system, and a locking rear differential (optional for $1,150 on the Westminster trim with the V8).
Engine | Trims | Horsepower | Torque | Fuel Economy (Combined) |
P360 | Range Rover | 355 hp | 365 lb-ft | 20 mpg |
P400 | Westminster | 395 hp | 405 lb-ft | 20 mpg |
P525 | Westminster SWB (optional) Westminster LWB Autobiography | 518 hp | 405 lb-ft | 18 mpg |
P565 | SV Autobiography SV Autobiography Dynamic | 557 hp | 516 lb-ft | 16 mpg |
All trims are equipped with air suspension that provides 8.7 inches of ground clearance in standard mode and can lower 1.9 inches for easier ingress or raise 3 inches in off-road mode. It also lowers a half-inch when cruising at highway speeds.
No matter which powertrain is fitted, the Range Rover can tow up to 7,700 pounds and can dip its rear suspension to aid with hooking up a trailer.
Passenger and Cargo Capacity
The Range Rover is 196.9 inches long and the long-wheelbase version stretches to 204.7 inches. All of that extra length is added between the axles to extend the rear-seat legroom to 46.8 inches. There’s no third-row seat option and passenger capacity goes from five to four in the Autobiography and SV trims, as their priorities are focused on rear passenger luxury.
The cargo volume remains the same on both models – at 34.5 cubic feet – but the added length expands the space behind the first row from 70.9 cubic feet to 77.5 cubic feet.
Safety Features
The Range Rover follows suit with many of the luxury brands where the essential systems are standard, such as automatic emergency braking and lane-keeping assist, while the more advanced technology requires checking off a few more boxes.
In typical Land Rover form, the Range Rover is capable of fording deep water – up to 35 inches in this case, which is more than either the Jeep Wrangler Rubicon or Mercedes G-Class – and the Wade Sensing feature ($325) helps to inform you of the depth of the water your passing through.
The base Range Rover offers three levels of driving assistance packages. The $410 Drive Pack includes blind-spot monitoring, traffic sign recognition, and driver condition monitor. The $2,170 Drive Pack Pro adds adaptive cruise control and blind-spot assist, and the $4,700 Driver Assist Pack further includes lane centering, high-speed automatic emergency braking, a surround-view camera system, and a clear exit monitor.
The Westminster trim offers the Driver Assist Pack for $2,030 as it already includes the equipment of the lesser two packages as standard. All features are included in the Autobiography and higher trims.
In addition to the front and rear parking sensors, the Range Rover offers the $600 Park Pack which includes additional sensors around the vehicle, rear cross-traffic monitoring, and a clear exit monitor. The Pro Park Pack can be had instead for $1,450 and adds parallel and perpendicular automatic parking assist. Again, the Westminster trim includes the first-tier package and is available with the Pro Park Pack for $850, while the Autobiography and up trims include the features as standard.
The Range Rover has not been evaluated by NHTSA or IIHS.
Connectivity
All trims are equipped with Land Rover’s Touch Pro Duo touchscreen system which utilizes two 10-inch touch screens with the lower touchscreen primarily for HVAC purposes (although it can display audio information) and the upper screen for infotainment (and many other systems).
The Range Rover features Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, SiriusXM, HD Radio, navigation, a Wi-Fi hotspot, and Remote Connect, while sound is played through the 13-speaker Meridian Sound System. The Autobiography ups the audio experience with the Meridian Surround Sound System and its 19-speaker 825-watt system, while the SVAutobiography trims feature the Meridian Signature Sound System which brings 29 speakers, 1,700 watts, and the brand’s Trifield 3D sound technology.
The Range Rover offers up to two 110V/150W power outlets, five 12V sockets, and seven USB ports located throughout the cabin.
