The Lexus LS was recently updated for the 2021 model year, but the large luxury sedan still gets a few new features for 2022. Under the hood, Lexus has updated the twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 engine with new pistons and wastegate control for improved efficiency. The standard 10-speed automatic transmission has been recalibrated to help keep the engine in its powerband. The large sedan comes with an updated suspension for a smoother ride. Every LS trim now comes with the automaker’s Safety System+ 2.5 system as standard equipment, while the LS 500h is available with the new Lexus Teammate semi-autonomous system. Lastly, a new Haku interior ornamentation option becomes available. The 2022 LS is part of the fifth-gen model that came out in 2018.
When Lexus introduced the LS as a fully redesigned model in 2018, the large sedan arrived with a bold, sharp design. Lexus’ spindle grille, angular check-mark headlights, and elongated hood gave the sedan an aggressive front-end design. The LS sedan’s rear end is not nearly as aggressive with large exhaust outlets and massive wrap-around taillights. The design of the 2022 LS will continue to match the current model’s.
On the inside, the 2022 LS will continue to have the same design as the model that’s currently on sale. The main highlights are the dashboard that flows upward as it reaches the instrument cluster and the infotainment screen that’s nestled into the dashboard. While the LS has a striking interior design, the small buttons and dials on the center console can be difficult to use. As one would expect from Lexus’ flagship luxury vehicle, the LS comes with high-end materials.
On the tech front, the LS will come with a 12.3-inch touchscreen. Other standard tech features include Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Amazon Alexa, navigation, 12 audio speakers, a Wi-Fi hot spot, satellite radio, voice recognition, and Bluetooth. The major optional feature is a 23-speaker Mark Levinson audio system. These features will carry over from the current model year.
Power for the 2022 LS comes from a twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 engine that makes 416 horsepower and 442 pound-feet of torque. Lexus will continue to offer the LS with a hybrid powertrain in the LS 500h. That model comes with a 3.5-liter V6 engine that’s paired to two electric motors for a combined output of 354 hp and 350 lb-ft of torque. The hybrid features a continuously variable automatic transmission and a four-speed automatic. Rear-wheel drive is standard, while all-wheel drive is optional.
For 2022, the LS now comes with Lexus Safety System+ 2.5 as standard equipment. The suite includes forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, pedestrian and bicyclist detection, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring, automatic high-beam assist, parking sensors, as well as front and rear cross-traffic alert. The LS 500h also receives Lexus’ new Teammate system that allows for partial hands-free driving.
