The Mazda CX-50 is expected to be the newest addition to the Japanese automaker's crossover lineup. While official specs & pricing have not yet been revealed, early reports suggest the SUV may be a coupe-like variant of the CX-5 for the 2022 model year.
Based on a report from Nikkei Asia, some have surmised that Mazda is working on a new rear-wheel-drive platform using inline-6-cylinder engines. While this has not yet been confirmed, a CX-50 could continue the brand's upmarket push with its lineup.
In terms of its name, a CX-50 could make sense considering the addition of the smaller CX-30. However, it remains to be seen whether or not the rest of the lineup will adopt the same structure. We'll have to wait for an official announcement to know more.
Stay tuned for possible updates as information becomes available.
