Model Preview

In an effort to revamp the bottom of its lineup, Mercedes-Benz released the all-new A-Class in 2019 as the replacement for the redesigned and upgraded CLA-Class. The A-Class received a handful of updates in 2021, but we expect the 2022 Mercedes-Benz A-Class to be a carryover model.

As a carryover, we expect the 2022 Mercedes-Benz A-Class to continue with the same design it has today. This means the A-Class will retain its more traditional sedan look compared to the CLA-Class it replaced. Despite carrying a more traditional sedan design, we expect the A-Class to boast a touch of sportiness with its long hood, short overhangs, slim headlights, optional 19-inch wheels, and swoopy roofline.

Inside, we expect the 2022 A-Class to continue with its modern, S-Class-inspired cabin. This will include a clean center stack, round air vents, a sporty three-pos steering wheel with metallic posts, and more. The current A-Class comes well-equipped with standard leatherette upholstery, power-adjustable driver’s seat, dual-zone climate control, keyless ignition, a panoramic sunroof, 17-inch wheels, and side-by-side 7-inch screens — a driver information display and an infotainment touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. We expect these features to remain the same in the 2022 A-Class.

Under its hood, the current A-Class comes in two flavors, starting with the A220 and its 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder that cranks out 188 horsepower and 221 pound-feet of torque. The spicier Mercedes-AMG A35 also features a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder, but its wick is cranked to 302 hp. Both models feature a standard seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. The A220 comes standard with front-wheel drive, but all-wheel drive is available. The A35, however, has standard all-wheel drive. We expect the 2022 Mercedes-Benz A-Class to carry on with the same powertrain options.

One of the key updates to the 2021 A-Class is standard automatic emergency braking. The current A-Class also has two spend-up safety packages. The Driver Assistance package adds adaptive cruise control, active lane control, and blind-spot monitors for $1,700. The Parking Assistance Package runs $1,090 and adds automatic parking assistance and a surround-view camera system. We expect the standard and optional safety gear to remain the same on the 2022 A-Class, though the package prices may see a small price increase.

Pricing & Release Date

Mercedes hasn’t announced a release date for the 2022 A-Class. Based on previous release schedules, we expect it in the spring or early summer of 2021.

There are no official pricing details on the 2022 A-Class. With no changes expected, we anticipate its pricing to remain similar to the current model’s $34,700- $46,900 (destination fees included) MSRP range.

This subcompact luxury sedan will compete with the Acura ILX, Audi A3, and BMW 2-Series.
