Model Preview

Nissan’s teased its new EV crossover for some time now, but it’s finally official with the debut of the all-new 2022 Nissan Ariya. Here’s what to expect when the 2022 Ariya hits showrooms.

On the outside, the Ariya will feature a striking and futuristic design that’ll go right to the edge of overstyled and stop. This will give it the advanced and unique looks some buyers want without turning off more conservative buyers. This design will feature a new take on the V-motion grille with a blacked-out insert and LED accents that create an opened-bottom “V.” It’ll also feature slim LED headlights, a swoopy roofline, a sporty rear spoiler, a forward-sloped rear hatch, and loads of gloss-black accents.

The 2022 Ariya will measure 182.9 inches long, 74.8 inches wide, and 65.4-65.7 inches tall. It’ll ride atop a 109.3-inch wheelbase with 19- or 20-inch wheels at the corners.

Inside, the five-passenger 2022 Ariya will feature a calming, clutter-free cabin thanks to a minimalist take on the climate controls and air vents. Breaking up the calmness are its two screens: a large infotainment screen and a large digital gauge cluster behind a futuristic flat-bottom, two-spoke steering wheel. This cabin will also include Zero Gravity seats, a center storage box with a fold-out tray, and an adjustable center console.

On the tech side, the Ariya will include Amazon Alexa, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, natural voice recognition, and over-the-air firmware updates.

Nissan Ariya

The 2022 Ariya will come with a few powertrain options. The standard option will be a single-motor front-wheel-drive model. The upgrade will be a twin-motor setup with e-4ORCE all-wheel drive. Both versions will offer standard and long-range models, and the latter combined with front-wheel drive will deliver about a 300-mile driving range. Nissan hasn’t laid out precise output secs, but it claims the 2022 Ariya will provide 160-290 kW (214.6-388.9 horsepower) and 221-443 pound-feet of torque.

Safety will be top-notch, as the 2022 Ariya will come standard with Nissan Safety Shield 360, which will include automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, blind-spot warning, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-departure warning, high-beam assist, and rear automatic braking. It’ll also have available ProPILOT Assist 2.0, which will allow single-lane, hands-off highway driving.

Pricing & Release Date

The 2022 Ariya has been delayed due to a chip shortage, but is expected to go on sale sometime in 2022. According to Nissan's website, reservations for the 2022 Ariya are coming later this year.

Pricing isn't confirmed, but Nissan expects it to start around $40,000.

This all-electric crossover will compete with the Tesla Model Y, Audi e-Tron, and Hyundai Kona Electric.
