The Porsche Macan is expected to see its next major redesign around 2022. According to the automaker, the next version of its bestselling SUV will be fully-electric. As a result, the current range of performance-oriented turbo engines will be discontinued. But will the new Macan EV be able to satisfy Porsche enthusiasts and those accustomed to the classic sounds of an internal combustion engine? That remains to be seen.
Broadly speaking, the brand has already committed to offering electrified versions of key models, be it through hybrids, plug-in hybrids, or fully-electric vehicles. However, the decision to completely replace its gas engines with an EV powertrain in its most important model is certainly significant.
Porsche says the next Macan will use technology from the upcoming Taycan sports car to deliver faster charging and greater performance. Expect more details to emerge closer to launch.
