The Subaru Forester arrived as a fully redesigned model for the 2019 model year. For the compact SUV’s fourth model year on sale, we expect the 2022 Subaru Forester to be a carryover model.
When Subaru redesigned the Forester’s exterior design in 2019, it penned a rugged, conservative look. We expect the 2022 Forester to share a lot of the same design elements found on the current vehicle. The current SUV wears sharp headlights, a tidy grille, and sharp edges for the fog light housing. At the back, the SUV will feature Subaru’s familiar taillight design, a boxy greenhouse, and black body cladding on the rear bumper. The exterior design will make the 2022 Forester easy to see out of.
On the inside, we expect the 2022 model to retain the same look as the current Forester. Simple lines result in an uncluttered design that’s easy to use. Large dials for the HVAC system, a centrally located touchscreen that protrudes slightly out of the center console, and well-located buttons see the Forester prioritize usability over design.
Being a carryover model, tech features for the 2022 Forester should remain the same. The standard infotainment system will include a 6.5-inch touchscreen, two USB ports, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and satellite radio. Optional tech features include an 8-inch touchscreen, Wi-Fi hot spot, four USB ports, and a nine-speaker Harman Kardon audio system.
The Forester will continue to be offered with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder that produces 182 horsepower and 176 pound-feet of torque. The engine will be paired with a continuously variable automatic transmission with power going to all four wheels through an all-wheel-drive system. The same powertrain will be offered for the 2022 model year.
Standard safety features on the 2022 Forester will include lane keeping assist, adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, and lane departure warning. Optional safety features will include rear cross traffic alert, lane change assist, driver drowsiness monitoring, and blind spot monitoring. In the NHTSA’s testing, the 2021 Forester earned a five-star overall safety rating. The rating should remain the same for the 2022 model year.
