What's New
For 2022, pricing for the Subaru Impreza remains unchanged from the previous year. All features carry forward with a new exterior color scheme offered. Also, the Limited trim is now exclusive to the hatchback.
Choosing Your Subaru Impreza
Subaru offers the 2022 Impreza as a four-door sedan and a five-door hatchback. The Impreza comes with standard all-wheel drive, a four-cylinder engine, and a manual gearbox or continuously variable transmission.
Engine Choices
The 2022 Subaru Impreza features one engine choice. A 2.0-liter flathead four-cylinder develops 152 horsepower and 145 pound-feet of torque. A 5-speed manual transmission is standard on the base trims as well as on the hatchback’s Sport trim. Otherwise, a continuously variable transmission is included or available.
With the CVT, the Impreza earns a combined 30 to 32 mpg. The models equipped with the manual transmission earn just 25 or 26 mpg combined city and highway.
Passenger and Cargo Capacity
In either body style, the Subaru Impreza supplies room for five, although four is the better choice. The sedan’s trunk capacity measures 12.3 cubic feet – and that’s small for the segment.
In comparison, the Nissan Sentra supplies 14.3 cubic feet of storage capacity. As for the hatchback, it offers 20.8 cubic feet of standard cargo capacity and 55.3 cubic feet with the rear seat folded, rivaling what some small crossovers offer.
Safety Features
Subaru equips every Impreza with the mandated rearview camera. As for driver-assist features, they are available through package or trim upgrades.
These features include forward collision warning, forward and reverse automatic emergency braking, and lane departure warning. Lane keep assist, adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert are also standard.
Automatic high beam, adaptive LED headlights, and a rear-seat reminder are optional.
Connectivity
Among the standard features for the 2022 Impreza is a 6.5-inch touch-screen display. Subaru also includes Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and a four-speaker audio system.
Other features available include satellite radio, HD radio, and two USB ports. An 8-inch touch-screen display, navigation, and an 8-speaker audio system are available.
Impreza Base – MSRP From $19,755/$20,255
The base Impreza features steel wheels, halogen headlights, cloth seats, and full power accessories. Upgrading to the CVT costs $1,300, but it also includes the Subaru Eyesight Driver Assist Technology suite of safety features. This package includes pre-collision braking and throttle management, lane keep assist, lane departure warning, and sway warning.
Impreza Premium – MSRP From $23,155/$23,655
The Premium trim builds on the base model’s equipment level with the CVT package. Fog lights, heated exterior mirrors, a heated windshield, and heated front seats are included. The hatchback models gain roof rails.
Impreza Sport – MSRP From $23,555/$23,955
For just $800 more than the Premium, the Sport trim adds several features. Keep in mind, though, the manual transmission is standard. Otherwise, the CVT is a $1,100 upgrade. This trim coms with 18-inch machine finish alloy wheels, an exclusive sport-tuned suspension, and active torque vectoring. An 8-inch touchscreen display, keyless entry with push-button start, aluminum pedals, and leather touchpoints are included.
Impreza Limited – MSRP From $27,355
Exclusive to the hatchback, the range-topping Limited comes with LED headlights, LED daytime running lights, and 17-inch machine-finished alloy wheels. Inside, the cabin features a leather-trimmed interior. Automatic climate control, a 6-way power driver’s seat, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shifter are standard. The full contingent of Subaru’s driver-assist safety features are included with this trim. Also, an optional package ($2,350) that bundles navigation, the Harman Kardon audio system, and a power moonroof is available.
Compare Impreza Trims Side-By-Side
The hatchback is far more versatile than the sedan and never costs more than $500 above the corresponding sedan trim. The generous amount of cargo space makes it an easy pick. And, if you want the Limited trim, that’s your only body style choice.
