What's New
The 2022 Toyota Tacoma SR5 trim gains an available Trail Edition Package, featuring a lifted suspension and enhanced storage. The line-topping TRD Pro receives suspension upgrades and revised exterior trim. The current Tacoma dates back to 2016. Sources say a total redesign is coming for the 2023 model year.
Choosing Your Toyota Tacoma
The 2022 Tacoma comes in six trim levels: SR, SR5, TRD Sport, TRD Off-Road, Limited, and TRD Pro.
Pricing starts at $27,715 and climbs to $47,150 for the TRD Pro.
Engine Choices
The SR and SR5 start out with a four-cylinder engine, and a V6 is available for $1,430. The V6 is standard on all other models.
Four-wheel drive costs $2,245 with the four-cylinder and $2,030 to $3,575 with the V6, depending on the trim. The TRD Pro is the only model with standard 4WD.
Most Tacoma variants come with a six-speed automatic transmission. A six-speed manual transmission is available on 4WD TRD models only. The automatic is a $1,340 upgrade on these trims.

The SR5 and above carry an eight-inch touchscreen, and wireless device charging is standard starting with the TRD Sport.
Navigation bundled with a premium JBL sound system ($1,710) is optional on the SR5, TRD Sport, and RTD Off-road — and standard on the Limited and TRD Pro.
The SR provides basics like power windows and locks, air conditioning, cloth upholstery, a front skid plate, body-color exterior trim, a chrome rear bumper, and 16-inch steel wheels.
The Double Cab also gets dual-zone automatic climate control, black body trim, and black alloy wheels. The blackout treatment is available on the Access Cab in the $840 SX Package. Keyless entry is optional ($230) across the board.
Tacoma SR5 — MSRP From $30,395
The SR5 picks up a leather-wrapped steering wheel, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, fog lights, and standard keyless entry. Models equipped with the V6 engine also get a 10-way power driver seat. The V6 Double Cab only gets a power-sliding rear window. The SR5 Appearance Package, consisting of black alloy wheels and body-color overfenders, costs $685 on four-cylinder models and comes standard with the V6.
The new Trail Edition Package ($3,765) is offered on V6 Double Cab models equipped with 4WD. Contents include a locking rear differential, an off-road performance skid plate, a 1.1-inch rear and 0.5-inch front suspension lift, all-terrain tires, and bronze exterior trim. The interior receives floor liners and black cloth seats with tan sticking. The bed features a power outlet and two removable storage boxes, one of which can double as a beverage cooler.
Tacoma TRD Sport — MSRP From $34,265
The V6 is standard on the TRD Sport, along with wireless charging, a leather-trimmed shift knob, a bed power outlet, signal indicators in the side mirrors, a hood scoop, 17-inch wheels, and proximity key access. The Premium Sport Package for the Access Cab ($1,945) adds heated front seats, automatic headlights, and navigation. The Double Cab's Premium Sport Package ($3,980) tacks on leather seats, a sunroof, automatic headlights, navigation, and the JBL sound system.
Tacoma TRD Off-Road — MSRP From $35,905
The TRD Off-Road reverts to 16-inch wheels and loses the hood scoop, but gains an electronically-locking rear differential. 4WD versions come with a terrain selection and crawl control. Other equipment and options are shared with TRD Sport.
Tacoma Limited — MSRP From $40,470
The Limited comes standard with all the comfort and convenience features found on the lower trims. The body wears polished 18-inch wheels and chrome trim.
Tacoma TRD Pro — MSRP From $47,150
The TRD Pro combines the Limited's high level of equipment with the full TRD treatment. Along with the TRD Sport's off-road equipment, the TRD Pro offers a 1.5-inch front and 0.5-inch rear suspension lift, forged aluminum TRD-spec upper control arms, Fox internal-bypass shocks, additional skid plates, and a sport-tuned exhaust system. The outside gets a unique grille, a black hood scoop, and black 16-inch wheels.

The SR5 offers plenty of versatility for the money, although we would avoid the underpowered base engine. With the new Trail Edition Package installed, the SR5 makes for a fine recreational vehicle. Among the TRD models, the Sport is best suited to civilian driving, while the Off-Road makes the most sense for mixed on- and off-road use. The TRD Pro is the ticket for dedicated off-road enthusiasts.
