The Volvo S60 rolled out in 2000 and has undergone three generational changes since. The most recent model, which was introduced in 2019 strengthened its mission as an entry-level compact luxury sedan. For 2021, Volvo made LED headlights and blind-spot monitors standard equipment. The 2022 S60 will likely be a carryover with small changes.
The Volvo S60 is a compact luxury sedan with a cozy cabin and a cramped rear seat. It comes with standard front-wheel drive and available all-wheel drive. This sedan represents a fusion of style and minimalism, a well-balanced machine with short overhangs, a long hood, a vertical bar grille, and hammer-shaped LED headlights.
Inside, the cabin is clean and orderly. The minimalist theme of the exterior is advanced here with modern and classical lines intersecting. A 9-inch touchscreen display is the focal point of the cabin with imitation leathers or real hides wrapping the seats and other surfaces. The look is balanced and calming with strict attention to ergonomics and comfort. The rear seat is the only questionable area, solved by utilizing it for average-size adults or folding the seat to access the trunk with its tidy 11.6 cubic feet of storage space. If you need more storage room, look at the similar V60 wagon with nearly 51 cubic feet of storage capacity available.
Volvo excels in all things technology, including infotainment. The standard 10-speaker audio system includes satellite radio. USB ports, Bluetooth connectivity, and Android Auto and Apple CarPlay smartphone compatibility. Among the available features are a Bowers & Wilkins audio system, head-up display, and a surround-view camera system.
Every S60 model comes with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine. It’s what Volvo does with the engine that distinguishes it amongst the available trims.
The standard turbocharged engine makes 250 horsepower and works with an 8-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive to form the T5 model. The T6 model adds a supercharger to the turbo and is all-wheel drive. This one makes 316 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. At the top end, the T8 blends the turbocharger and supercharger with plug-in hybrid technology to produce 400 horsepower and up to 22 miles of electric range. On the top end is a Polestar-engineered T8 with 415 horsepower and 494 pound-feet of torque.
The S60 comes with great standard safety features, including automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, active lane control, and adaptive headlights. Pilot Assist, the company’s driver-assistance system supplies semi-autonomous driving capabilities.
