What's New
The 2023 BMW X2 is largely a carryover model but notably gains a new GoldPlay appearance package and an updated M Sport package and loses the M35i and optional stereo upgrade.
Choosing Your BMW X2
There are two trims available, the sDrive and xDrive, and starting prices range from $37,595 to $39,595.
Engine Choices
The X2 is equipped with a single powertrain, a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that puts out 228 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. The sDrive models are front-wheel drive and earn an EPA-estimated 24 miles per gallon city, 32 mpg highway, and 27 combined while the xDrive all-wheel-drive models lose just one mpg point on the highway.
Passenger and Cargo Capacity
The X2 shares the same underpinnings as the X1 but its focus on styling sees a few compromises to interior space. Its 172-inch length is about three inches less than its more utilitarian sibling and about one inch shorter than the Mercedes GLA. Inside, the X2 offers 55.6 inches of shoulder room in the front row while those in the back are afforded 53.9 inches of shoulder room, 37 inches of headroom, and 36.7 inches of legroom which are slightly less than in the X1 and GLA but still, not overly cramped. Cargo room measures 21.6 cubic feet behind the second row and 50.1 cubic feet with the second row folded which are on par for the class but not as cavernous as the X1.
Safety Features
The X2 includes automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, parking sensors, and speed limit sign detection while adaptive cruise control is available for $1,000.
NHTSA has not yet rated the X2 while the BMW earns Good crash ratings, an Acceptable headlight performance rating, and a mid-level score for vehicle crash avoidance from IIHS.
Connectivity
Both trims feature an 8.8-inch touchscreen with a physical dial controller, Apple CarPlay, SiriusXM, HD Radio, and Bluetooth and offer Wi-Fi as part of a $500 option. Navigation is bundled within the $3,500 Premium Package.
2023 BMW X2 sDrive 28i – MSRP From $37,595
The front-wheel-drive trim is equipped with 18-inch wheels, LED headlights, taillights, fog lights, rain-sensing wipers, a sunroof, and a power tailgate outside, while the interior features synthetic leather seats with eight-way power adjustability, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and automatic climate control.
The X2 can be ordered with the Convenience Package for $2,250 that adds proximity entry, auto-dimming mirrors, power-folding mirrors, a panoramic sunroof, approach lighting, and ambient lighting or the Premium Package that includes those features plus a head-up display, navigation, and heated seats for $3,500.
With the Convenience Package selected, leather seats can be ordered for $1,400.
The M Sport design package ($4,050) brings 19-inch wheels, revised front and rear bumpers, black window surround trim, body-color lower door and fender trim, an M Sport steering wheel, and the Convenience Package. This package also unlocks the M Sport Suspension for $400.
The new-for-2022 GoldPlay edition ($4,350) includes the M Sport design package as well as a gloss black mesh grille, lower front bumper air intake garnishes, and rear apron, 19-inch wheels with gold highlights, a 0.4-inch lower ride height, gloss black exhaust outlets, black M Sport seats with yellow contrast stitching, and matte graphite interior trim. The GoldPlay is available in white, black, gray, or an exclusive dark green color. Also exclusive to the GoldPlay are the available dynamic dampers for $500.
2023 BMW X2 xDrive 28i – MSRP From $37,595
The xDrive 28i is equipped with all-wheel drive and includes the same features and option packages as the sDrive 28i.
The xDrive 28i with the M Sport design package stands out with its design, and while not inexpensive, it includes the convenience features expected in a premium compact crossover.
