2023 Hyundai Elantra: Preview, Pricing, Release Date

Model Preview

Hyundai came out with a fully redesigned Elantra for 2021. Three model years later, the compact Elantra still manages to feel fresh and remains competitive thanks to a hybrid powertrain and the available high-performance N trim. With the 2023 Hyundai Elantra arriving soon, we expect the car to be a carryover model.

The Elantra arrived in 2021 with a bold, daring design, especially for the compact segment. As a carryover model, the 2023 Elantra should have the same overall design as the current model that’s on sale. With heavily creased body lines, an enormous grille, and sharp lights, the Elantra certainly makes a statement. The available Elantra N turns up the heat with more aggressive wheels, a more menacing grille, a large rear spoiler, and huge exhaust pipes.

On the inside, the current Elantra isn’t nearly as outlandish. If anything, it drifts toward the luxurious side of things with a minimalist design and sweeping lines. Two screens dominate the dashboard and are connected oddly to appear like one large screen. A horizontal vent runs the full width of the dashboard, while a grab bar protrudes out of the center console and splits the front seats. We expect the 2023 Elantra to retain the same interior design as the Elantra that’s currently on sale.

The Elantra comes with an impressive amount of technology for a compact vehicle. The 2023 Elantra is expected to come with an eight-inch touchscreen, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, Bluetooth, two USB ports, four audio speakers, and an HD Radio. Available features include a 10.2-inch touchscreen, a 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster, eight audio speakers, a wireless charging pad, and navigation. The larger infotainment system is only offered with wired smartphone compatibility.

Just like the 2022 model, the 2023 Elantra will be available in four different powertrains. The standard Elantra comes with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that makes 147 horsepower and 132 pound-feet of torque. The Elantra N Line features a turbo 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine making 201 hp and 195 lb-ft of torque. The range-topping Elantra N comes with a turbo 2.0-liter four-cylinder that’s rated at 276 hp and 289 lb-ft of torque. The standard Elantra is offered with a continuously variable automatic transmission. The Elantra N Line is available with a six-speed manual and a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic. The sporty Elantra N can be equipped with a six-speed manual or an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic. Hyundai also offers the Elantra Hybrid that features a 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine with an electric motor for a combined output of 195 hp. The hybrid features a six-speed dual-clutch automatic.

The current Elantra comes with a lengthy list of standard safety features, which we expect will go unchanged for the 2023 model year. Forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-keeping assist, a driver drowsiness monitor, rear-seat alert, and safe exit warning are standard. The Elantra is available with adaptive cruise control, cyclist detection, rear collision warning, Hyundai’s Highway Driving Assist system, and rear parking sensors.

Pricing & Release Date

Hyundai typically releases its new model years in the fall. We expect to see the 2023 Hyundai Elantra arrive at dealerships before the end of 2022.

As a carryover model, pricing for the 2023 Hyundai Elantra should mirror the 2022. Pricing for the regular Elantra should stay around $20,995 (with destination) and go up to $26,745. We expect pricing for the Elantra Hybrid to range from $24,895 to $29,395. The high-performance Elantra N should start at around $32,945.

The 2023 Hyundai Elantra will compete against the Honda Civic, Mazda3, Volkswagen Jetta, and Nissan Sentra.
