Model Preview

The 2023 Mazda3 is expected to enter the new model year as a carryover model, though we could see the compact vehicle arrive with a refresh based on its model cycle. Regardless of whether the Mazda3 arrives with a redesign or not, the compact vehicle is expected to continue being a fun-to-drive car with an upscale design.

The current Mazda3 arrived as a fully redesigned model with a premium design in 2019. As a carryover model, the 2023 Mazda3 will continue to have the same overall design as the current vehicle that’s on sale. The current Mazda3 wears a high-end look with an oversized grille, thin headlights and taillights, as well as smooth lines. The Mazda3’s curvaceous rear end and large exhaust outlets are the sportiest touches on the vehicle. In the case of a redesign, the 2023 Mazda3 could receive an updated grille, new exterior lighting, and updated wheels, similar to what we saw with the 2022 Mazda CX-5.

As a carryover, the 2023 Mazda3 should retain the same overall interior as the current Mazda3 on sale. With sweeping lines, a split dashboard design, and a simple layout, the current Mazda3 looks like a luxury vehicle. The Mazda3 has a slim section of dials and buttons for the HVAC system, while the main dial to control the touchscreen is located behind the shift knob. A simple three-prong steering wheel and clear gauges are sporty elements on the inside. A refreshed Mazda3 should have the same overall interior design as the current model but could benefit from updated seats.

On the tech front, the 2023 is expected to share the same features as the current model. That means we can expect the vehicle to come with an 8.8-inch display, eight audio speakers, two USB ports, Bluetooth, voice recognition, and an HD Radio. Optional features will include Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, navigation, a 12-speaker Bose audio system, and satellite radio.

Mazda offers three four-cylinder engines with the current Mazda3. We expect these engines to remain the same for the upcoming 2023 model year. A 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine is standard on the sedan, generating 155 horsepower. Front-wheel drive is the only available layout with this engine. A 2.5-liter four-cylinder making 186 hp is available and brings all-wheel drive as an option. A turbocharged 2.5-liter engine is optional, producing 250 hp. This engine is available with FWD and AWD. A six-speed manual transmission is offered on the 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine with FWD. All other engines come standard with a six-speed automatic.

Every Mazda3 now comes standard with adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, lane departure warning, automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, and automatic high-beam assist. Optional safety features include blind-spot monitoring, traffic sign recognition, a head-up display, rear cross-traffic alert, a surround-view parking camera, and Mazda’s traffic jam assist system. We expect these features to remain the same for the 2023 model year.

Pricing & Release Date

The 2023 Mazda3 is expected to arrive in fall 2023, regardless of whether it’s a carryover model or a refreshed vehicle.

Even with a refresh, we expect pricing for the 2023 Mazda3 to remain close to the current model’s. Pricing for the sedan ranges from $21,815 (prices include destination) up to $34,115. The Mazda3 Hatchback is more expensive, ranging from $23,765 up to $35,415.

The Mazda3 will compete against compact vehicles like the Honda Civic, Hyundai Elantra, Volkswagen GTI, and Nissan Sentra.
