: Very Good vehicle. Very good and close to being the best vehicle in its class.

: Good vehicle. Decent, but not quite the best. Often affordable, but lacking key features found in vehicles of the same class.

Model Preview

The Mercedes-Benz EQS-Class arrived as an all-new model in 2022. The all-electric sedan is the automaker’s flagship push toward EVs. Understandably, it’s one of the most opulent electric cars on the market and has state-of-the-art tech features. While the EQS doesn’t have the same performance as other electric cars on the market, its focus on luxury can’t be matched. With the EQS still being a new vehicle, the 2023 sedan should be a carryover model.

Mercedes engineered the EQS as an electric car from the get-go, giving designers a lot of freedom to pen a futuristic vehicle. The result is an S-Class that looks like it’s from the future. The smoothness of the body lines and panels, pop-out door handles, and ultra-slim air intake highlight the EQS’ focus on aerodynamics. While the EQS is undeniably a large sedan, the car has a raked rear end, frameless doors, and high beltline that make it look like an elongated sports car from the front doors back. As a carryover model, the 2023 EQS should have the same exterior design as the model that’s currently on sale.

On the inside, the current EQS is equal parts luxury and high-tech wizardry. The overall design of the 2023 EQS should be identical to the current model that’s on sale. The entire dashboard can be configured to be a screen in a seamless design that no other electric car on the market can match. A slim horizontal slat of vents sits right above the dashboard, which is flanked by two turbine-style vents. The rest of the cabin is incredibly plush, featuring opulent materials, and a wow factor indicative of the EQS’ status as a flagship vehicle.

Mercedes-Benz EQS-Class

The EQS offers cutting-edge tech features that you won’t find on any other vehicle. Standard features on the EQS include a 12.3-inch touchscreen, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, augmented-reality navigation, a wireless charging pad, a 15-speaker Burmester audio system, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, six USB ports, Bluetooth, and voice recognition. Available features include a 56-inch Hyperscreen (which includes a 12.3-inch instrument cluster, a 17.7-inch touchscreen, and a 12.3-inch passenger-side touchscreen), a rear wireless charging pad, a rear tablet, and a fingerprint scanner. These features should remain the same for the 2023 model year.

Mercedes-Benz offers the 2022 EQS with three different powertrains. We expect the powertrains to remain the same for 2023. The EQS 450+ comes with a single electric motor on the rear wheels for 329 horsepower. It has a range of up to 350 miles. The 580 4Matic trim adds a second electric motor to power the front wheels, bringing all-wheel drive and a combined output of 516 hp. The AWD 580 4Matic trim has a range of 340 miles. The range-topping AMG EQS is tuned to produce up to 752 hp with the AMG Dynamic Plus package. This model prioritizes performance and has a range of 300 miles.

The current EQS comes with nearly every safety feature imaginable as standard equipment. Forward collision warning, forward and reverse automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, front and rear cross-traffic alert, lane-keeping assist, lane changing assist, lane departure warning, adaptive cruise control, traffic sign recognition, a surround-view parking camera, a driver attention monitor, and car-to-X communication are standard.

Pricing & Release Date

We expect the 2023 Mercedes-Benz EQS-Class to arrive at showroom floors before the end of 2022.

As a carryover model, the 2023 EQS should have a similar starting price tag to the 2022 model. The current EQS ranges from $103,360 up to $126,360 (including destination). Mercedes has not priced the AMG EQS model yet.

The 2023 Mercedes-Benz EQS will compete against the Porsche Taycan, Tesla Model S, Lucid Motors Air, and Audi e-tron GT.
