What's New
The 2023 Nissan Altima receives a mid-cycle refresh with a revised front fascia, standard LED headlights, two new exterior colors, newly styled wheels, additional standard active safety features, and an enhanced infotainment system with a larger display. The SL trim receives the features of the previously top-tier Platinum trim as it has been dropped from the line-up.
Choosing Your Nissan Altima
The 2023 Altima sedan is offered in four trims: S, SV, SR, SL, and prices range from $26,385 to $33,085.
Engine Choices
Most 2023 Altima models are equipped with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that generates 188 horsepower and 180 pound-feet of torque which is distributed to the front wheels through a continuously-variable transmission. All-wheel drive is available for $1,500 and can route up to 50% of available power to the rear wheels.
A 2.0-liter turbocharged engine with variable displacement is offered on the SR trim and produces peak figures of 248 horsepower and 273 pound-feet of torque. It cannot be paired with the all-wheel-drive system.
The mainstream trims with the 2.5-liter engine and front-wheel drive achieve an EPA-estimated 27 miles per gallon city, 37 mpg highway, and 31 combined while the all-wheel-drive system subtracts just one mpg across the board.
The premium engine’s trick variable-displacement technology brings significantly more power while sacrificing just two combined MPG points.
Passenger and Cargo Capacity
The 2023 Altima stretches to 193 inches in length which is par for the segment that includes the Honda Accord and Toyota Camry. It seats five, however, rear seat room (35.2 inches) is notably less than what is offered by its competitors and its trunk volume - measuring 15.4 cubic feet - is on the smaller end.
Safety Features
Now all Altima trims are equipped with nearly a full suite of active safety technology such as automatic braking with (daytime) pedestrian detection, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, rear parking sensors with automatic braking, and high beam assist. The SV trim offers adaptive cruise control and lane centering which are standard on the SR (with the upgraded engine selected) and the SL trims.
The Altima earns a five-star crash rating from NHTSA and is a 2022 IIHS Top Safety Pick+ winner.
Connectivity
The 2023 Nissan Altima S trim features a seven-inch touchscreen and a basic level of connectivity while the SV is equipped with an eight-inch screen and more notably gains Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, SiriusXM with 360L, and three additional USB ports.
The new 12.3-inch touchscreen is available and incorporates navigation and other remote connectivity services and is paired with a Bose nine-speaker sound system and a wireless charging pad. The SR with the upgraded engine and the SL trim include the upgrades as standard equipment.

Compare Altima Trims Side-By-Side
The SV trim with the optional package brings all of the safety gear plus the new-for-2023 infotainment system. The Altima doesn’t offer the premium feel of the Accord or the unique personality of the Sonata but it maintains a strong sense of value. We recommend the SV trim with the optional feature package as it brings everyday-useful modern technology and creature comforts without crossing over the $30,000 mark.
