What's New
The 2023 Subaru Legacy receives a midcycle refresh that includes bolder front-end styling, more standard tech features, and revised climate and audio controls. All trims adopt automatic emergency steering. The available turbocharged engine is now standard on the Sport trim but no longer offered on the Limited. These are the first significant changes to the current Legacy since its introduction in 2020.
Choosing Your Subaru Legacy
Subaru offers the 2023 Legacy in five trim levels: Base, Premium, Limited, Sport, and Touring XT. Pricing starts at $25,415 including destination and tops out at $38,715 for the Touring XT.
Engine Choices
The Base, Premium, and Limited carry a normally aspirated four-cylinder engine, while the Sport and Touring XT receive a turbocharged four-cylinder with significantly more power. All Legacy models feature all-wheel drive and a continuously variable transmission (CVT) with paddle shifters.
Engine Type | Horsepower | Torque | Fuel Economy (Combined) |
2.5L 4-Cyl | 182 hp | 176 lb-ft | 30 mpg |
2.4L Turbo 4-Cyl | 260 hp | 277 lb-ft | 27 mpg |
Passenger and Cargo Capacity
The 2023 Legacy is a midsize sedan with room for five. The trunk measures 15.1 cubic feet, which is typical for a family sedan. Split-folding rear seats are standard.
Safety Features
Every 2023 Legacy now comes with lane departure warning, adaptive cruise control with lane centering, adaptive LED headlights with automatic high beams, and front automatic emergency braking with steering assist. Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is optional on the Premium and standard on subsequent trims.
The Limited, Sport, and Touring XT also come with reverse automatic braking. A driver alertness monitoring system is optional on the Limited and standard on the Sport and Touring XT.
Connectivity
The infotainment system for the Base trim offers upper and lower 7-inch touchscreens, four speakers, two front USB ports, satellite radio, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. Moving up to the Premium brings a single 11.6-inch touchscreen, six speakers, two rear USB ports, Wi-Fi capability, and wireless phone integration. Navigation is optional on the Premium and Limited — and standard on the Sport and Touring XT.
The Limited and Touring also get a 12-speaker Harman Kardon sound system. Wireless device charging is available on all trims as a dealer-installed accessory.

2023 Subaru Legacy Base — MSRP From $25,415
The entry-level Legacy provides basics like manual cloth seats, a 4.2-inch driver info display, and power windows, locks, and mirrors. Buyers also get automatic climate control and 17-inch alloy wheels.
2023 Subaru Legacy Premium — MSRP From $27,715
The Premium tosses in a bundle of popular features, including heated front seats, a 10-way power driver seat, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, upgraded interior trim, and heated body-color side mirrors with integrated turn signals.
There are two option packages for the Premium. The first adds blind-spot monitoring, LED fog lights, proximity entry, and push-button start for $1,000. These items are also available with navigation and a sunroof for a total of $2,595.
2023 Subaru Legacy Limited — MSRP From $32,465
The Limited picks up leather seats, a 12-way power driver seat, an eight-way power passenger seat, driver mirror memory, heated rear seats, 18-inch machined-finish wheels, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, a universal home remote, and the Harman Kardon system. The items in the Premium's first option bundle are standard as well. For an extra $2,060, buyers can add the sunroof, navigation, a heated steering wheel, and the driver alertness system.
2023 Subaru Legacy Sport — MSRP From $34,915
The Sport gets the turbocharged engine, plus selectable driving modes, sport cloth seats with red stitching, a trunk spoiler, and 18-inch gray wheels. Note the Limited's power passenger seat, heated rear seats, and Harman Kardon system aren't available on the Sport — but everything else offered on the Limited is standard.
2023 Subaru Legacy Touring XT — MSRP From $38,715
Also turbocharged, the Touring XT includes everything available on the other trims. Exclusive upgrades include Nappa leather upholstery, ventilated front seats, power-folding chrome side mirrors, and the 180-degree front camera.
Compare Legacy Trims Side-By-Side
The 2023 Subaru Legacy in Premium trim remains the best value of the lot. With a few options added, the Premium covers all the bases a family car should for under $30,000. Who can argue with that?
