Chevrolet is late to the all-electric pickup party, but it’s certainly making a splash with the 2024 Silverado EV. The all-new model is meant to compete with the F-150 Lightning, Rivian R1T, and Tesla Cybertruck. Just like the F-150 Lightning, Chevrolet will launch the Silverado EV in a wide range of trims, including a fleet truck. But Chevy’s first electric truck will also be offered in an off-roading Trail Boss trim.
Built from the ground up as an electric vehicle, the 2024 Silverado EV features a bold, daring design that is far more futuristic than the standard Silverados. The front end features slim headlights with an LED daytime running light that covers the full width of the truck. A small square grille sits above a pentagonal air intake and a rugged front bumper. At the back, the truck has r-shaped taillights, the available Multi-Flex Tailgate, and a bed that flows into the body instead of a boxy design. For a pickup truck, the Silverado EV features short overhangs that should make the truck easier to drive.
Chevrolet’s engineers envisioned the Silverado EV as an electric vehicle from the onset and it shows on the inside. The pickup features a design that’s more car than a truck. The model features chunky vents that jut out, while two screens dominate the dashboard. The center console has a thin row of buttons for the HVAC system with two prominent dials. The all-electric design results in numerous cubbies throughout the cabin, while the available Multi-Flex Midgate expands cargo capability by allowing owners to carry large items by folding the rear seats down. A column-mounted shifter also frees up interior space.
The 2024 Silverado EV features a tech-heavy design, though Chevrolet hasn’t confirmed all of the pickup truck’s specifications. At the time of writing, we know that the Silverado EV will come with an eight-inch digital instrument cluster and an 11-inch touchscreen. Higher trim levels will come with an 11-inch digital instrument cluster and a 17-inch infotainment screen. We expect things like Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, navigation, and a Wi-Fi hotspot to be available.
On the powertrain front, the upcoming Silverado EV will come with two electric motors. According to GM Authority, output has recently been updated ahead of the truck's reveal to a maximum of 754 horses and 785 pound-feet of torque when in Wide Open Watts mode. This comes after the reveal of the 2024 GMC Sierra EV, which has the same higher output than GM originally estimated. Chevy has said the Silverado EV will be capable of the zero to 60 sprint in 4.5 seconds.
All-wheel drive and a four-wheel steering system are standard, while adaptive air suspension is optional. The off-road-ready Trail Boss should be offered with locking differentials, upgraded suspension, and all-terrain tires. Towing caps out at 10,000 pounds when properly equipped, though Chevrolet has stated that a 20,000-pound towing capacity will be available in the future. Using General Motors’ Ultium tech, the 2024 Silverado EV should be available with a battery pack as large as a 200-kWh unit. Chevy claims the Silverado EV will be available with a range of up to 400 miles.
Every 2024 Silverado EV will come with Chevrolet Safety Assist, which is the automaker’s suite of advanced safety features. The suite includes forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, pedestrian detection, lane departure warning, and automatic high beam assist. Chevrolet’s Super Cruise system will also be available.
