Overview

2024 Chevrolet Trailblazer Changes

The 2024 Chevrolet Trailblazer receives its first refresh since its 2021 introduction. The front fascia features new design elements that vary by trim level. Each trim also gets revised wheels design, and 19-inch wheels are now standard on the RS. Inside are an enlarged center touchscreen and driver info display.

Choosing Your 2024 Chevrolet Trailblazer

The 2024 Chevrolet Trailblazer comes in four trim levels: LS, LT, ACTIV, and RS. Pricing for the Trailblazer starts at $24,395 including destination and goes to $28,395 for the ACTIV and RS before options.

2024 Chevrolet Trailblazer Engine Options

The 2024 Chevrolet Trailblazer gives buyers a choice of two engines. The LS and LT carry a standard 1.2-liter turbocharged three-cylinder with 137 horsepower and 162 lb-ft of torque, paired with continuously variable transmission (CVT). The optional ($395) 1.3-liter three-cylinder turbo makes 155 hp and 174 lb-ft of torque and comes with a nine-speed automatic. The 1.3-liter is standard when all-wheel drive ($2,000) is added to these trims.

The 1.3-liter engine is standard on the ACTIV and RS, whether equipped with front-wheel drive or AWD.

Engine TypeHorsepowerTorque
1.2-liter Turbo 3-Cylinder137 hp162 lb-ft
1.3-liter Turbo 3-Cylinder155 hp174 lb-ft

2024 Chevrolet Trailblazer Fuel Economy

With the standard engine and front-wheel drive, the 2024 Chevrolet Trailblazer is EPA-rated at 29 miles per gallon city, 31 mpg highway, and 30 combined. The more powerful 1.3-liter actually does a little better on the highway (33 mpg), so the combined rating bumps to 31 mpg.

When equipped with AWD and the mandatory 1.3-liter, the Trailblazer earns 26/30/28 mpg (city/highway/combined).

2024 Chevrolet Trailblazer Towing Capacity

Regardless of the drivetrain, the 2024 Chevrolet Trailblazer is rated to tow up to 1,000 pounds.

2024 Chevrolet Trailblazer Dimensions & Cargo Capacity

The Trailblazer is a subcompact, two-row crossover with seating for five. The boxy design contributes to good rear legroom for this class. The exterior measures 174 inches long, 71 inches wide, and 64 inches tall. With its upgraded suspension, the ACTIV reaches 66 inches in height.

The Trailblazer can carry 25 cubic feet of cargo behind the rear seat and 54 cubic feet with it folded. These are hearty figures for a vehicle this size. The front passenger seat folds forward to accommodate items up to 8.5 feet long.

2024 Chevrolet Trailblazer Safety

Every 2024 Chevrolet Trailblazer comes with lane-keeping assist, automatic high beams, a following distance indicator, and automatic emergency braking. The $395 Driver Confidence Package for the LS and LT adds rear parking sensors and blind-spot monitoring with rear-cross traffic alert. These items are standard on the ACTIV and RS.

Adaptive cruise control is available on the LT for $495 as an add-on to the Driver Confidence Package. It's available on the ACTIV and RS in a $995 package that includes a Bose sound system.

2024 Chevrolet Trailblazer Technology

The standard infotainment system for the Trailblazer includes a new 11-inch touchscreen, six speakers, two front USB ports, satellite radio, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility.

The Convenience Package for the LT ($1,495) and ACTIV and RS ($1,195) includes wireless charging and two rear USB ports. The ACTIV and RS can get a seven-speaker Bose system, bundled with adaptive cruise control, for $995.

CarsDirect Tip

The 2024 Chevrolet Trailblazer LT is priced close enough to entry-level LS to make the LT the obvious choice for most buyers. Upgrading to the ACTIV makes sense if you intend to leave the road now and then. Spending for the RS only seems necessary if you must have the red-accented black leatherette interior

Blazing a trail. Chevy’s Trailblazer has traditionally fallen on the wrong side of bland in terms of its aesthetics. It’s pleasing to report, therefore, that 2024 models have adopted a futuristic restyle that adds greater purpose to this crossover SUV. It resembles the latest generation of Kia vehicles, and we mean that as a compliment. The razorblade grille, slit LED headlamps, and chrome Chevrolet badge are bold, though the plastic lower cladding will inevitably age badly. Thick C-pillars hinder rear visibility, while some might find all the creases and indentations along the side profile unnecessarily cluttered.

Step inside and further evidence of the Trailblazer’s metamorphosis is provided by a completely restyled dash. This includes an 11-inch touchscreen and an eight-inch digital instrument cluster, offering wireless smartphone mirroring alongside Google Maps integration. With twin rotary dials for the heating flanking a handful of buttons, the dash is modern and tasteful in equal measure.

More room for legs than torsos. Even riding on 19-inch wheels, the Trailblazer looks compact and somewhat squat. However, the flat roof pays dividends internally. The trunk offers 25 cubic feet of cargo capacity, more than doubling once the rear seats are lowered. There’s a class-leading 39.4 inches of legroom in the rear, though the car’s modest width means three abreast will be rubbing more than just shoulders together.

Chevrolet Trailblazer

Move to the front, and supportive seats come in a variety of trims including fabric and leather – the latter increasingly being supplanted by synthetic alternatives in other marques. Cabin materials generally are of decent quality, with enough color contrasts to avoid the monochrome nightmare Volkswagen is often guilty of. Hexagonal air vents are a nice touch, though we question the need for a flat-bottom steering wheel on RS models – especially considering what’s under the hood.

A distinct lack of power. Nobody buys an SUV to set Laguna Seca lap times, but even relatively sedentary drivers might be disappointed by the Trailblazer’s lack of power. You can’t expect much from a 1.2-liter turbo-3 engine, and the paltry 137 hp output is further hobbled by its pairing with a CVT transmission that lacks conventional gears. We’d skip this entirely and move to the (slightly) bigger 1.3-liter unit, which produces 155 hp and can be paired with a slick nine-speed automatic transmission. The latter is only available in AWD models, which increases the purchase price while damaging fuel economy. However, it is more enjoyable to drive than the slushy CVT variant, offering better acceleration and less engine drone.

Road manners are otherwise adequate. You wouldn’t want to throw the Trailblazer into a series of winding bends, but if you did, you’d find the steering weighty and responsive. The ride is comfortable on varying surfaces, and there’s little body lean in the bends. Wind it up to cruising speed, and this relatively low-sided SUV will sit quite happily. Just don’t expect it to do so cost-effectively. We don’t yet have 2024 figures, but the most fuel-efficient 2023 Trailblazer only managed 31 mpg combined, while the asthmatic 1.2 struggled to return 30.

Safe, but equipment is lacking. The Trailblazer has received top scores from both the NHTSA and IIHS for its impact protection and crash avoidance technology. The latter extends to automatic emergency braking, active lane control, and blind-spot monitoring, though we’re disappointed to see adaptive cruise control only installed on mid-range LT trim and above.

This is hardly a luxurious vehicle, despite its impressive new infotainment system. Base LS models have a four-speaker stereo and few creature comforts, though they do at least receive cruise control and satellite radio for their $24,295 asking price. A $1,200 premium brings LT’s keyless entry and remote start, while the identically priced Activ and RS models ($28,295 apiece) receive a heated steering wheel and heated front seats with power for the driver. Activ models incorporate off-road suspension tuning and a skid plate, while RS trim brings 19-inch wheels and red interior accents.

Final thoughts. There’s no doubt that the 2024 model year changes have improved the Trailblazer’s appeal. It looks far more purposeful now, and the revised infotainment setup is excellent. The cabin makes the best possible use of available space, with generous cargo capacity and comfortable front seats that remain supportive even on long journeys. It’s also important to bear the competitive price in mind – a flagship Trailblazer still costs less than the cheapest MINI Countryman or FIAT 500X. It resembles a real bargain compared to Buick’s mechanically identical Encore.

Nonetheless, the Trailblazer does have a number of drawbacks. Its warranty is among the weakest on today’s market, and its fuel economy is underwhelming. Both engines feel underpowered, while the CVT transmission exacerbates the lack of oomph as soon as you reach a hill. Standard specifications are underwhelming, and Activ models have irrelevant accessories like skid plates – nobody is going to buy a Trailblazer for off-road work, even if they do spend extra on adding AWD. The external looks are also contentious, though it’s less bland than recent Honda and Volkswagen designs. In a bold paint scheme and with a contrasting roof, the Trailblazer at least stands out from the SUV herd.
