Model Preview

Ahead of the New York Auto Show, Genesis unveiled the striking GV80 Coupe. It’s a sportier coupe version of the midsize GV80 SUV with a coupe-inspired roofline. At the NY Auto Show, Genesis officially confirmed that it would be a production version of the SUV. Here’s what we expect to see from the midsize SUV.

The GV80 Coupe, which is still in concept form at the time of writing, features a striking design. The front end mirrors the GV80 with a split headlight design, a large shield-shaped grille, wide air intakes, and a sporty front fascia. The wide fenders, 23-inch wheels, heavily raked rear windshield, and prominent spoilers give the GV80 Coupe a sporty silhouette. At the back, the SUV has a split taillight design that curves around the side of the body and dual exhaust outlets. With the GV80 Coupe looking like a production vehicle, we don’t expect the design to change much when the SUV goes into production.

The concept version of the GV80 Coupe has an overly sporty design with similar design elements to the regular GV80 SUV. The simple dashboard design, large dials for the HVAC system, and rotary dials on the center console all match the GV80. The heavily bolstered front seats, faux-suede upholstery, and orange accents all give the concept car a sporty design. The concept features similar sport seats in the back for seating up to four people. Because of the GV80 Coupe’s sloping roofline, we expect the SUV to have less cargo space than the regular GV80.

Genesis GV80 Coupe

Genesis hasn’t confirmed the GV80 Coupe’s tech features. We expect the SUV to come with similar features as the GV80. That SUV comes with a 14.5-inch touchscreen, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, navigation, four USB ports, a wireless charging pad, and 12 audio speakers. Available features include a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 21-speaker audio system.

Genesis didn’t provide any information on powertrains for the GV80 Coupe. Based on the SUV’s sporty design, we expect the SUV to come with the automaker’s twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 engine. In the GV80, the engine makes 375 horsepower. All-wheel drive and an eight-speed automatic transmission are expected to be standard.

Safety features for the GV80 Coupe aren’t available yet. The SUV should be offered with pedestrian detection, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, rear cross-traffic alert, blind spot monitoring, lane keeping assist, lane departure warning, automatic high-beam assist, and a driver attention monitor. Genesis’ Highway Driving Assist which combines adaptive cruise control and lane-centering assist will also be available.

Pricing & Release Date

Besides confirming that the Genesis GV80 Coupe will make it to production, the brand hasn’t confirmed when the SUV will go on sale or how much it will cost. We expect the GV80 Coupe to cost more than the GV80 which starts at $56,925 with destination.

Other coupe-inspired SUVs in the midsize segment include the Porsche Cayenne Coupe, BMW X6, Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe, and Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport.
