Overview

2024 Honda Civic Changes

The 2024 Honda Civic is set to enter the new model year without any major changes. That’s not a bad thing, as the Civic was recently redesigned for the 2022 model year. Two years later, the compact car still has what it takes to be a leader in the segment.

Choosing Your 2024 Honda Civic

Honda offers the 2024 Honda Civic in both sedan and hatchback body styles. The Civic sedan is available in LX, Sport, EX, and Touring trims. Pricing for the sedan ranges from $25,045 to $31,645.

The Civic hatchback is available in LX, Sport, EX-L, and Sport Touring trims. The hatchback ranges from $26,045 to $32,545.

2024 Honda Civic Engine Options

The 2024 Honda Civic is available with two different engines. The standard engine in the Civic is a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that’s rated at 158 horsepower and 138 pound-feet of torque. The upgraded engine is a turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder that generates 180 hp and 177 lb-ft of torque.

Both engines are paired with a continuously variable automatic transmission. A six-speed manual transmission is available on the Civic hatchback. The Civic is only available with front-wheel drive.

Honda Civic

2024 Honda Civic Fuel Economy

With the available turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine, the 2024 Honda Civic sedan is rated to get up to 36 mpg combined (33 mpg city and 42 mpg highway). The hatchback is slightly behind with a combined fuel economy rating of up to 35 mpg.

The standard 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine brings fuel economy figures of 35 mpg combined, which is 31 mpg in the city and 40 mpg on the highway, for sedan models. In the hatchback, the engine is good for up to 33 mpg combined.

2024 Honda Civic Dimensions & Cargo Capacity

The 2024 Honda Civic sedan is slightly larger than the hatchback. It’s 184 inches long, 70.9 inches wide, and 55.7 inches tall. Despite being larger, both the sedan and hatchback have 37.1 inches of rear headroom and 37.4 inches of rear legroom.

The sedan version of the Civic offers up to 14.8 cubic feet of cargo space in the trunk. The hatchback has a more versatile cargo area, being able to hold up to 24.5 cubic feet of cargo space.

2024 Honda Civic Safety

Every 2024 Honda Civic comes with forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, traffic sign recognition, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, lane keeping assist, automatic high-beam assist, and rear-seat alert.

The EX and EX-L trims bring blind spot monitoring. The Touring and Sport Touring come with rear cross-traffic alert, low-speed automatic emergency braking, and parking sensors.

2024 Honda Civic Technology

The 2024 Honda Civic comes with a standard seven-inch touchscreen, a partial digital instrument panel, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, four audio speakers, Bluetooth, and a USB port.

The Sport trim comes with eight audio speakers. The Touring and Sport Touring trims feature a nine-inch touchscreen, a 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster, wireless smartphone compatibility, navigation, a 12-speaker Bose audio system, two rear USB ports, and a wireless charging pad.

2024 Honda Civic Trims & Prices

2024 Honda Civic LX – MSRP From $25,045

Build & Price >

The Civic LX sedan and hatchback come similarly equipped. The entry-level Civic comes with automatic LED headlights, exterior mirrors, 16-inch steel wheels, automatic climate control, power windows and door locks, cruise control, a tilt-and-telescoping steering column, push-button start, manually adjustable front seats, and cloth upholstery.

The LX hatchback starts at $26,045.

2024 Honda Civic Sport – MSRP From $26,645

Build & Price >

The Sport trim adds 18-inch wheels, keyless entry, remote start, three driving modes, sport pedals, and paddle shifters, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel.

The Sport hatchback costs $27,445.

2024 Honda Civic EX – MSRP From $28,045

Build & Price >

The EX trim is the first Civic to come with the turbocharged engine as standard. Other standard features include 17-inch alloy wheels, a sunroof, heated exterior mirrors, dual-zone automatic climate control, and heated front seats.

2024 Honda Civic EX-L – MSRP From $29,745

Build & Price >

The EX-L is a hatchback-only trim, but comes with a lot of the same features as the EX-only sedan. The EX-L does add leather upholstery and a power-adjustable driver’s seat.

2024 Honda Civic Touring – MSRP From $31,645

Build & Price >

Moving up to the Touring trim brings 18-inch alloy wheels, rain-sensing windshield wipers, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, leather upholstery, and a power-adjustable driver’s seat.

2024 Honda Civic Sport Touring – MSRP From $32,545

Build & Price >

The Sport Touring trim comes with the same features as the Touring, but one major differentiator is that it’s available with a six-speed manual transmission.

CarsDirect Tip

The 2024 Honda Civic EX is the best choice for most shoppers. The available turbocharged engine brings a large increase in performance and is more efficient than the base four-cylinder, which rarely happens. We do wish that Honda offered the larger touchscreen on trims other than the range-topping Touring and Sport Touring, but the standard seven-inch screen is easy to use.

The 2024 Honda Civic Is Too Roomy To Be Compact

When the first-generation Honda Civic was launched in 1972, it was a true subcompact that measured as little as 134 inches in length. Today’s sedan version has gained a remarkable 50 inches in length, effectively lifting it out of the subcompact class altogether.

It’s obvious where the extra space has gone internally, with rear riders receiving over 37 inches of legroom. The hatchback offers around 25 cubic feet of cargo space, while the longer yet less efficient sedan still packs 15 cubes into its trunk. This space is encased by an anodyne body which has eschewed the flutes and flares of the previous generation model for something less controversial, yet also less memorable.

Is the 2024 Honda Civic Good For Transporting Families?

With honorable exceptions like the Mazda3, this sector of the market isn’t renowned for style. The Civic might be bland externally, but it’s more than capable of shuttling families around effortlessly. The generous cabin space is enlivened with one or two design details that lift an otherwise prosaic interior – the ribbon of honeycomb metal with its tiny joystick-style air vent controls, for instance. Everything feels indestructible, from the steering wheel toggle buttons to the stubby gear lever controlling a delightful six-speed manual transmission.

The sophisticated suspension maintains impressive ride comfort at all times, while comfortable seats (especially in the front) are accessed through wide door apertures that necessitate ducking to dodge the Civic’s low roofline. Safety is a given thanks to top ratings from both American crash test agencies plus a roster of equipment including automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, and automatic high beams. It’s just a shame blind-spot monitoring isn’t standard, since thick C pillars make rear visibility challenging.

The 2024 Honda Civic Is a Fine Performer – In Some Guises

We mentioned the manual transmission a moment ago, and it’s worth considering this in models where it’s available, such as the Sport and Sport Touring. The alternative is a noisy CVT system that conspires to rob the normally aspirated two-liter inline-4 and (to a lesser extent) the 1.5-liter turbo-4 of power. They’re not frisky powerplants to start with, but a lack of oomph coupled with lots of droning makes the Civic tiring work on long uphill stretches or in stop-start city traffic.

Upping the performance ante resolves these issues by abolishing the CVT option entirely. The 200 hp sedan-only Si is a fine performer, with brisk acceleration encouraged by an exceptionally low torque peak of 1,800rpm. Good though it is, it’s blown into the tumbleweeds by the manic 315-hp Type R hatchback, ripping up the road in a five-second sprint to 60. It’s augmented by mechanical upgrades – Brembo front brakes, adjustable dampers, a limited-slip front diff – and a giant rear wing above a trilogy of tailpipes.

The 2024 Honda Civic Benefits From Decent Specifications

We’re not big fans of the base engine in the Civic, and we’re not huge lovers of the LX model kicking off the trim hierarchy, either. Your $25,045 (add a grand for the hatchback) nets you a seven-inch touchscreen, LED headlights, and 16-inch alloy wheels. We’d also skip the rather underwhelming Sport in favor of an EX sedan with a sunroof, heated front seats, the aforementioned blind-spot monitoring, and a beefier stereo. The equivalent EX-L hatchback model also adds leather, while Sport Touring models pack wireless smartphone connectivity and a more modern nine-inch touchscreen.

Does The 2024 Honda Civic Get Good Fuel Economy?

Considering there won’t be a hybrid option for another year, it does pretty well. The turbo-4 engine and CVT combine to achieve returns of 33/42/36 mpg, while the less powerful two-liter engine still manages 33 on the combined cycle. Only the Type R plunges below 30 mpg combined, while both it and the Si need premium fuel.

Is the 2024 Honda Civic A Good Car?

Honda Civic

The Civic has endured for over half a century through constant reinvention, and today’s range offers something for everyone. Keen drivers will revel in the performance, roadholding and feedback offered by Si and (in particular) Type R models, with red stitching and carpeting accentuating their full-blooded acceleration and grippy chassis. Older drivers will be happy in the knowledge this ultra-reliable car will last a lifetime if needed, while families can pack three kids into the back and still fit a long weekend’s worth of suitcases in the trunk.

The Civic is a likable car, but its drawbacks are clear. This is no future design classic; the unkind might even call it boring to look at. The non-turbocharged engine is slow, relatively thirsty, and hobbled by a noisy CVT transmission. Base models are sparsely equipped (the front seats adjust manually while the rear ones don’t even fold down), and the Type R’s road manners will only appeal to people who get up early so they can take the long way to work. If you can live with its transmission, an EX model strikes a good balance between value, equipment and comfort, and it’s this model which our overall score refers to.

2024 Honda Civic Alternatives

The onward march of SUVs means dwindling competition across the compact hatchback and sedan market. Shop the Mazda3 for a premium interior, the Subaru Impreza for go-anywhere practicality, the Volkswagen Golf for driving pleasure, and the Toyota Corolla for sheer choice.
