Overview

2024 Honda Pilot Changes

The 2024 Honda Pilot will arrive for its second model year since its full redesign without any major changes. With Honda giving the Pilot a full redesign for 2023, the midsize SUV doesn’t need any changes to continue to feel like a fresh option.

Choosing Your 2024 Honda Pilot

Honda offers the 2024 Pilot in six trims: LX, Sport, EX-L, Touring, TrailSport, and Elite. Pricing for the Pilot starts at $38,465 for the LX and go up to $53,855 for the Elite.

2024 Honda Pilot Engine Options

The 2024 Honda Pilot is available with a single powertrain. The Pilot features a 3.5-liter V6 engine that’s rated at 285 horsepower and 262 pound-feet of torque. The engine is paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission. Front-wheel drive is standard and all-wheel drive is available for $2,100. The TrailSport and Elite come with standard AWD.

Honda Pilot

2024 Honda Pilot Fuel Economy

With FWD, the 2024 Honda Pilot can get up to 22 mpg combined (19 mpg in the city and 27 mpg on the highway). With AWD, the Pilot’s fuel economy falls to 21 mpg combined, which breaks down to 19 mpg city and 25 mpg highway.

The rugged TrailSport is the least efficient Pilot in the lineup, having a combined fuel economy rating of up to 20 mpg combined.

2024 Honda Pilot Towing Capacity

When properly equipped with AWD, the 2024 Honda Pilot offers up to 5,000 pounds of towing capacity. FWD models top out at 3,500 pounds.

2024 Honda Pilot Dimensions & Cargo Capacity

The 2024 Honda Pilot is a midsize SUV that’s 199.9 inches long, 78.5 inches wide, and 71 inches tall.

The Pilot offers up to 32.5 inches of third-row legroom. In the second row, the Pilot has 40.2 inches of headroom and 40.8 inches of legroom.

When it comes to cargo space, the Pilot has 18.6 cubic feet of space with the third row in place. Folding the third row down opens cargo capacity up to 48.5 cubic feet. In total, the Pilot has 87 cubic feet of total cargo space.

2024 Honda Pilot Safety

Honda offers its Honda Sensing Suite of advanced safety features on the Pilot. Standard safety features on the midsize SUV include a driver attention monitor, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, traffic sign recognition, adaptive cruise control, automatic high-beam assist, lane departure warning, lane keeping assist, and rear-seat alert.

Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are standard starting on the Sport trim. The EX-L trim is the first in the line to come with low-speed braking control and parking sensors as standard. The TrailSport and Elite come with a surround-view parking camera.

2024 Honda Pilot Technology

The standard 2024 Honda Pilot comes with a seven-inch touchscreen, a seven-inch digital instrument cluster, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, Bluetooth, and seven audio speakers.

Stepping up to the EX-L trim brings nine audio speakers, wireless smartphone compatibility, a nine-inch touchscreen, a wireless charging pad, satellite radio, and an HD Radio. Touring and Elite trims come with a Wi-Fi hotspot, a Bose 12-speaker audio system, navigation, and multi-zone audio. Honda reserves a 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster for the range-topping Elite trim.

Honda doesn’t offer the base LX with any major optional packages.

The TrailSport also comes with TrailWatch, which is a multi-camera system that gives drivers a view of what’s around the SUV.

2024 Honda Pilot Elite – MSRP From $53,855

Build & Price >

The range-topping Elite trim combines all of the Pilot’s upscale tech and luxury features to be the most luxurious pick of the bunch. It comes with a heated windshield, a heated steering wheel, heated second-row seats, ventilated front seats, perforated leather upholstery, LED door trim lighting, a head-up display, and a 110-volt outlet.

CarsDirect Tip

The 2024 Honda Pilot lineup offers something for everyone, but we think the mid-level EX-L offers the best value of the pack. It’s worth the upgrade over lower trims, as it has the larger touchscreen, more tech features, and more convenience features that shoppers in the market for a midsize SUV should enjoy.

The 2024 Honda Pilot Has Space For The Entire Family

After last year’s full redesign, the 2024 Honda Pilot continues to be a family-friendly vehicle. Compared to the previous-gen model, the fourth-gen Pilot is 3.4 inches longer, while the wheelbase has grown by 2.8 inches. It’s also 1.5 inches wider at the back. With its sizable body, the Pilot has a generous amount of space for everyone.

The Pilot has 158.4 cubic feet of total passenger space, which results in two roomy rows of front seats. Passengers in the front two seats get roughly 41 inches of legroom and 40 inches of headroom. The Pilot’s third row offers up to 32.5 inches of legroom, making it roomy enough for adults on short drives, which is something that’s not possible with a lot of other midsize SUVs in the class.

Can The 2024 Honda Pilot Hold A Lot Of Cargo?

Thanks to its large body, the 2024 Honda Pilot has a generous amount of cargo space. The Pilot offers up to 87 cubic feet of cargo space with the two rear rows of seats folded. With the second row in place, the Pilot has 48.5 cubic feet of cargo space. The Pilot has 18.6 cubic feet of cargo space with the third row in place.

Honda Pilot

Is The 2024 Honda Pilot Good For Families?

With a large cabin with spacious seats and a large cargo area, the 2024 Honda Pilot is a great option for families. In addition to these qualities, the Pilot has numerous cubbies and storage compartments in the cabin for small items.

2024 Honda Pilot Has A Rugged TrailSport Trim

More and more drivers are looking to go off-roading and the 2024 Honda Pilot has an option that’s worth exploring. The available TrailSport trim stands out as the off-road-ready trim in the lineup with all-terrain tires, off-road-tuned suspension, increased ground clearance, an off-road stability system, underbody skid plates, and off-road recovery hooks.

While the TrailSport may not be the most capable off-road SUV on sale, it has plenty of performance and capability to tackle dirt roads, rugged terrain, and light trails.

The 2024 Honda Pilot Comes With A Smooth V6 Engine

While some midsize SUVs have switched to turbocharged four-cylinder engines, the 2024 Honda Pilot continues to be powered by a 3.5-liter V6 engine. The engine produces 285 horsepower and 262 pound-feet of torque. The engine is paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission. Front-wheel drive is standard and all-wheel drive is available for $2,100.

The V6 engine may not endow the Pilot with snappy performance, but it’s refined and smooth. The engine also matches the Pilot’s on-road manners, which are steady and trouble-free.

Does The 2024 Honda Pilot Have Good Fuel Economy Figures?

With a large V6 engine and a large midsize body, the 2024 Honda Pilot doesn’t have good fuel economy figures. FWD Pilot models can get up to 22 mpg combined (19 mpg in the city and 27 mpg on the highway). With AWD, the SUV’s fuel economy drops to 21 mpg combined.

The rugged TrailSport trim, which comes with AWD as standard, is rated at up to 20 mpg combined.

2024 Honda Pilot Comes With Disappointing Tech Features

Some midsize SUVs are available with dual 12.3-inch screens, but the 2024 Honda Pilot makes do with a standard seven-inch touchscreen and a seven-inch digital instrument cluster. These are tiny screens for the segment and they look comically small in an SUV that’s as big as the Pilot.

Honda offers the Pilot with a nine-inch touchscreen and a 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster, but these screens are still smaller than screens in competitors. Additionally, the graphics are dated.

Honda Pilot

Is The 2024 Honda Pilot A Good SUV?

The 2024 Honda Pilot is a good SUV, though it fails to stand out in a meaningful way. Against competitors, the Pilot doesn’t have the same spunky performance, advanced tech features, upscale interior, or good fuel economy figures as rivals.

What the Pilot does have, is a spacious interior, a large cargo area, a rugged TrailSport trim, and a smooth V6 engine. These are enough to keep the Pilot competitive in the class, but other midsize SUVs deliver more at the same price point or for less.

2024 Honda Pilot Alternatives

The Kia Telluride continues to be one of the most popular options in the class and a fan favorite. The Telluride has a rugged exterior design, a high-end interior design, a roomy interior, high-tech features with 12.3-inch displays, and upscale convenience features. Just like the Pilot, the Telluride comes with a V6 engine, but Kia’s is rated at 291 hp.

Shoppers that don’t expect to go off-roading, but want something more upscale than the Pilot should look toward the Mazda CX-90. It’s all new for 2024 and arrives with a premium design, an upscale cabin, high-end features, and a silky-smooth six-cylinder engine. The CX-90 is rated at up to 340 hp, has an available plug-in hybrid engine, is enjoyable to drive, and is available with 12.3-inch displays.
