Mercedes-Benz is giving the CLA a mid-cycle refresh for the 2024 model year. The compact sedan arrives with more tech features, an updated design, and new powertrains. The changes should make the CLA more competitive against newer competitors.
Overall, the design of the 2024 Mercedes-Benz CLA hasn’t changed drastically, as the sedan continues to feature a sporty coupe look. At the front, the new CLA wears an updated grille, a revised front fascia, and redesigned taillights. The rear of the sedan features LED taillights and a new diffuser design. Shoppers will find new wheel designs and a few new paint jobs, as well.
The interior design of the 2024 CLA has gone unchanged compared to the current model that’s on sale. The CLA features a tiered dashboard with circular air vents and two large screens that are integrated into a single trim piece. A thin row of physical controls is positioned below three circular air vents that are positioned in the middle of the dash. Because of the CLA’s sloping roofline, passengers in the back get a limited amount of headroom.
On the tech front, the 2024 CLA comes with the latest MBUX infotainment system and two 10.25-inch displays as standard equipment. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are now available and the sedan moves to featuring USB-C ports. The sedan should continue to be available with a wireless charging pad, a Wi-Fi hotspot, navigation, and a Burmester audio system.
The largest change for the 2024 CLA happens under the hood. The sedan gains a 48-volt mild-hybrid system on most trims. The mild-hybrid system provides a boost of 13 horsepower low in the rev range and provides energy for the starter generator to recuperate during braking. The system is found on the CLA 250, CLA 250 4Matic, and the AMG CLA 35. The CLA lineup continues to come with a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 221 horsepower in the CLA 250 and 302 hp in the AMG CLA 35. The AMG CLA 45 has been replaced by the AMG CLA 45 S which comes with a more powerful turbo-four that makes 416 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque. Front-wheel drive is standard and all-wheel drive is available and all CLAs come with an eight-speed automatic transmission.
Mercedes hasn’t made any changes to the CLA’s safety features for 2024. The sedan will continue to come with forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, a driver attention monitor, blind spot monitoring, and crosswind assist as standard. Available safety features should include lane keeping assist, lane change assist, park assist, evasive steering assist, adaptive cruise control, rear cross-traffic alert, and a surround-view parking camera.
