Model Preview
Mercedes-Benz is giving the 2024 GLE-Class a slight mid-cycle refresh for the new model year. Here’s what to expect from the upcoming GLE.
Changes to the 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLE’s exterior design are modest and hard to spot. The midsize SUV arrives with a new front bumper with a new lower portion for the side intakes. The SUV’s headlights and taillights were redesigned. The AMG GLE 53 model gets a redesigned front fascia and a new AMG badge on the hood that replaces the Mercedes logo. New 22-inch wheels have been introduced for the AMG GLE 63 S. A new off-road package is available for 2024 that includes underbody skid plates and 1.2 inches of extra ground clearance.
The interior of the 2024 GLE gets a few minor changes. There’s more chrome throughout the cabin like on the center and side air vents. Mercedes claims that these were previously only available on the Mercedes-Maybach GLS. The digital instrument cluster and central display can be controlled via new sensor surfaces on the redesigned steering wheel. Piano Black Flowing Lines is a new trim option for 2024.
We'll email you as soon as the 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLE-Class becomes available.
On the tech front, Mercedes isn’t making any changes to the GLE for 2024. The midsize SUV will continue to come with a 12.3-inch touchscreen, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, navigation, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, a wireless charging pad, five USB ports, Bluetooth, and a virtual assistant. Available features include a Burmester audio system, two extra USB ports, and augmented reality.
The largest change for the 2024 GLE happens under the hood. The midsize SUV’s entire lineup is electrified thanks to a 48-volt mild-hybrid system with an integrated starter-generator. Since it’s a mild-hybrid system, output remains the same for all GLE models. The 2024 will be offered with engines that range from a turbo 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with 255 horsepower up to a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 with 603 hp. Additionally, there’s a new GLE 400e 4Matic PHEV model. It gets the same turbo-four base engine but adds an electric motor into the mix for up to 381 hp.
Safety features are expected to remain the same as the current GLE. The midsize SUV should continue to come with forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, blind spot monitoring, a driver drowsiness monitor, automatic high-beam assist, parking sensors, and hands-free park assist as standard. Available features will include adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, traffic sign recognition, lane departure warning, and a surround-view parking camera. Mercedes has added some trailer technology like a trailer assistant to make it easier to tow large cargo.
Pricing & Release Date
Mercedes-Benz claims that the 2024 GLE will go on sale later this year. Pricing hasn’t been announced yet, but we expect the midsize SUV to be more expensive than the current model which starts at $58,850 with destination.
The GLE will compete against the BMW X5, Volvo XC90, Genesis GV80, Porsche Cayenne, Audi Q7, Lexus RX, and INFINITI QX60.
