The 2024 RAM 1200 has been spied in South America, and it looks like that's as close to the U.S. as it may get. According to Motor1, the new small truck should slot below the RAM 1500, and will carry the possible moniker of 1200, or as some rumors suggest the RAM Dakota.

We don't know much about the vehicle, but Motor1 reports that the latest camouflaged vehicle has lost some features that it had borrowed from cousins Jeep and Fiat, and has what looks to be more production-ready touches such as unique headlights and taillights. The new RAM 1200 should ride on a Small Wide 4x4 architecture that will mark it a Stellantis product the likes of a Compass or Commander and should slot above other small trucks that aren't available in the U.S., such as the Fiat Toro.

The prototype 2024 RAM appears to be similar in size to the Ford Maverick and has a long wheelbase and double cab body style. The small truck has plenty of ground clearance, squared wheel arches, and dual exhaust tips. According to Motor1, the rumor mill says that RAM intends to sell the truck only in a 4x4 layout with a new 2.2-liter turbodiesel engine which should make about 200 horsepower and 325 lb-ft of torque. There should also be a gasoline engine option that will be compatible with ethanol and paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission.

We haven't gotten to peek at the inside of the RAM 1200 yet, but we expect similar features to those found in the RAM 1500. The Current 1500 is highly configurable, but we don't expect this to be the case with the 1200. We expect the small pickup to function as a daily driver or small work truck and to feature the most base safety kit.

Pricing & Release Date

Pricing hasn't been discussed for the 2024 RAM 1200, and we're not sure if the truck will be released in the U.S. The truck is being produced at the Pernambuco plant in Brazil and should come out later this year for international markets.

If the small RAM 1200 does come to our shores, we expect it to compete with other small trucks like the Ford Maverick, the Chevy Colorado, and the Hyundai Santa Cruz.
