What To Expect

At the end of 2021, Toyota unveiled its concept-model lineup of upcoming battery electric vehicles, dubbed Beyond Zero, or bZ. In an effort to achieve carbon neutrality, Toyota has set a goal to offer 30 new EVs, across all segments, by 2030. This model, designated as Toyota’s 7- or 8-passenger 3-row EV is tentatively called the bZ Large SUV.

As part of the Beyond Zero brand of vehicles, the bZ Large SUV appears to be based on the 3-row Toyota Highlander, but with styling similar to the Toyota bZ4X compact SUV. We think this may be the biggest of the new bZ series coming out, possibly larger than the also planned bZ5X, which is another 3-row EV SUV.

2024 Toyota bZ Large SUV Engine & Specs

We're not sure what will power the upcoming bZ, but we do know that it will have an electric powertrain, possibly similar to the one found in the bZ4X, though we expect another motor to power the larger vehicle.

The current Toyota bZ4X is powered by either a single or dual motor setup and can be configured as either a front-wheel drive vehicle or all-wheel drive. The FWD single-motor version starts with a 201-horsepower setup generating 196 lb-ft of torque, while performance in the dual-motor AWD configuration is boosted to 214 hp and 248 lb-ft.

2024 Toyota bZ Large SUV Safety

As far as safety is concerned we're sure we'll see the new EV with all the latest bells and whistles, including Toyota's Safety Sense 3.0 suite of safety features which includes pre-collision warning, lane departure alert, dynamic radar cruise control, lane tracing assist, road sign assist, automatic high-beams, and proactive driving assist.

According to Toyota, their Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 introduces several enhancements over the previous generation, including an upgraded forward-facing camera with higher resolution and wider angles, and an improved radar sensor for a longer and wider field of view.

2024 Toyota bZ Large SUV Price

Pricing is unknown at this point, but it’s worth pointing out that Toyota is aiming to add reasonably priced EVs to its lineup rather than focusing solely on the range. The current gas-powered Highlander will run you between $36,420 and $48,775 (with destination), and the current Toyota Highlander Hybrid costs $39,585 and $51,490. We expect the Toyota bZ Large SUV to start closer to $60,000.

2024 Toyota bZ Large SUV Release Date

The release date info for the bZ Large SUV has not yet been announced. But due to the major push to roll out 30 EVs globally by 2030, it could come as soon as the end of this year.

Stay tuned for updates as they become available.
