Volkswagen has been teasing the all-electric ID. Buzz for roughly five years now, but the wait has been worth it, as the all-electric van has finally debuted. While VW will offer the 2024 ID. Buzz in cargo and passenger versions in Europe, consumers in the U.S. will only be able to purchase the longer, three-row passenger variant.

Compared to the concepts we saw a few years ago, the production version of the ID. Buzz has a few crucial changes. The headlights have grown in size, the lighting element that connects the headlights is more prominent, and the grille at the bottom of the front fascia has larger, diamond-shaped cutouts. At the back, the 2024 ID. Buzz has larger taillights that aren’t as squared off as before. Overall, the ID. Buzz has lost its curvy lines for more angles and a boxier feel. Still, the 2024 Volkswagen ID. Buzz is easily recognizable as being a modern interpretation of the Type 2 Microbus from the ‘50s.

The interior of the 2024 ID. Buzz combines VW’s knack for simplistic designs with something that looks incredibly airy. Just like the exterior, the electric van will be available with a two-tone interior design with trim pieces that match the exterior’s paint scheme. The dashboard is a single continuous air vent that spans the full width of the van, while the cabin has plenty of storage compartments, including a spot directly in front of the passenger. The ID. Buzz also has a removable center console between the front seats, seating for up to seven people, eco-friendly materials, and highly flexible seats.

Volkswagen hasn’t confirmed all of the 2024 ID. Buzz’s features yet. At the moment, we know the van will come with a 10-inch digital instrument cluster and a 10-inch touchscreen as standard equipment. We expect Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, a Wi-Fi hot spot, Bluetooth, four USB ports, and voice recognition to be standard. Available tech features should include a 12-inch touchscreen, a wireless charging pad, and navigation.

At the moment, Volkswagen has only confirmed specifications for the European version of the 2024 ID. Buzz. The regular-wheelbase model features an 82-kWh battery pack (77.0 kWh of that is usable) and a 201-horsepower electric motor at the back. U.S. models should have a larger battery pack and possibly an all-wheel-drive model with two electric motors. We expect VW to announce some concrete news on the American version closer to the van’s on-sale date. The range for the ID. Buzz comes in at up to 263 miles per charge, and the EV will be able to support DC fast charging at up to 170 kW. At a DC fast-charging station, the ID. Buzz can go from 5 to 80 percent charging in just 30 minutes.

Information on the U.S. 2024 ID. Buzz’s list of standard safety features isn’t available yet. According to VW, the European versions will come standard with automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, lane departure warning, and traffic sign recognition on most models. Optional features should include park assist, adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane keeping assist, VW’s Travel Assist system with assisted lane changing, and VW's Park Assist with memory function for automated parking.
