What To Expect

BMW has seen its focus shift towards SUVs and crossovers in recent years, with 13 of such models now featured in their lineup. That being said, the German luxury brand may be further adding to its high-riding lineup. We're still speculating, but we might be seeing an X8 model in the not-too-distant future. Here's what we know so far about the 2025 BMW X8.

With 1-7 occupied, the X8 is the logical continuation of BMW's SUV lineup. Furthermore, CarBuzz reports that BMW filed a trademark for the X8 M, and has been mulling the idea of the model for several years now. We previously covered a prototype that we believed to be the X8, but it ended up being released at the XM.

However, CarBuzz again reports that an X8 may still be on the horizon. They expect the X8 to be a coupe-like sibling to the XM, much like the X6 relative to the X5. However, whereas the XM is primarily focused on performance, the X8 is expected to be a luxury-oriented offering.

Assuming we end up seeing the X8 in this form, we would expect it to share most of its underpinning with the XM. The XM is powered by a twin-turbocharged 4.4L V8 that's coupled to a plug-in hybrid system. Given its assumed luxury orientation, we're not expecting to see the 738-hp variant found in the XM Label, but we may see the 644-hp variant from the base XM.

Similarly, we're expecting the X8 to retain the majority of the XM's interior appointments, but with comfort as a higher priority. The large dual-screen unit in the dash from the XM will likely carry over, but we imagine the X8 will feature more soft-touch materials and additional padding in the seats. Niceties like the upgraded Bowers & Wilkins stereo that are optional in the XM may be standard equipment as well.

2025 BMW X8 Price & Release Date

Seeing as we're not certain the X8 will arrive, we don't have a release date yet.

The same goes for pricing, although we'd expect a similar figure to the XM's base MSRP of $159,995.

We expect the BMW X8 to compete with the Mercedes-Benz GLS-Class, Audi SQ8, Porsche Cayenne, and the Land Rover Range Rover.

We will update this page as more information becomes available, so stay tuned.
