Redesign Info

The second-generation Ford F-150 Lightning is set to make its debut in late 2025. We expect this generation to ride on a new battery platform, the TE1 platform, which is cutting ties to the old ICE ways and getting more range in the process. We also predict the Lightning will build on the solid foundation laid by the first generation, but improve upon certain factors and qualities, like higher quality materials and a better battery pack in base models.

According to Autoblog, it's clear that a lot is coming to the Lightning line, but it's unclear what will be exclusive to the 2025 Ford Lightning, and what may be components of a new truck, which has been described in comments by Ford CEO Jim Farley. Farley told Automotive News of plans for a new Ford electric truck saying it will be "a vehicle we do not have today [on] a brand-new platform — a full-size pickup platform. A next-gen electric truck, different from the F-150 Lightning."

The current F-150 Lightning features a standard ICE vehicle's rugged look and performance while giving you the power to do more with this all-electric truck. The current generation features a grille-less design with slim air intakes and r-shaped lights. We expect the design to stand out a bit more from the gas-powered models with more of its own unique exterior features and touches.

Inside, the current F-150 Lightning features a tech-forward design with a 12-inch touchscreen, a 12-inch digital instrument cluster, a Wi-Fi hotspot, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Bluetooth, six audio speakers, multiple USB ports, Amazon Alexa, and eight 120-volt outlets. Available features include a larger 15.5-inch touchscreen, an HD Radio, a wireless charging pad, 18 audio speakers, and two additional 120-volt outlets.

For the second generation, we expect the truck to move further from an ICE model with even more unique features that make the EV stand out from its gas siblings. We expect the 2025 version to come standard with the latest safety technology and features and to present up-to-date choices in infotainment and creature comforts.

When it comes to power, we know the 2025 Ford F-150 Lightning is getting an upgrade over the current Lightning. Right now, each truck comes with two electric motors and all-wheel drive. The truck’s standard battery pack is a 98-kWh unit, while a larger 131-kWh extended battery pack is available. With the standard battery pack, the Lightning is rated at 452 horsepower. The extended battery pack is rated at 580 hp. The standard range battery pack offers up to 240 miles of range, while the extended battery pack brings 320 miles of range. We're expecting more power and more range in the second-generation Lightning.

Pricing & Release Date

We know the 2025 Ford F-150 Lightning is set to begin production on August 18, 2025. There's no confirmation of a ballpark price yet, but we predict it will start with MSRPs between $56,000 and $100,000, which is more than the current model on sale. We will keep you posted as we learn more information.

The 2025 Ford F-150 Lightning will compete against the Rivian R1T, the Chevy Silverado EV, GMC Sierra EV, and the Lordstown Endurance.
