What To Expect

The grandfather of the hot hatchback segment, the Volkswagen Golf GTI, is getting a refresh for the 2025 model year. U.S. specifications for the upcoming GTI aren’t available yet, but Volkswagen has unveiled the European version of the hatchback, which points toward what VW has in store for the U.S. model. Here’s what we know about the 2025 Volkswagen GTI.

The exterior design of the 2025 Volkswagen GTI will get a slight update compared to the hatchback that’s currently on sale. The headlights will be revised, the front bumper appears to be slightly different, and the taillights have a new design. We also expect VW to introduce some new wheel designs and exterior colors. For 2025, the GTI will be available with a new black roof, as well.

On the inside, shoppers will be happy to see physical controls return to the 2025 Volkswagen GTI. The physical controls are positioned below a large central display that’s positioned in front of the dash. The rest of the GTI’s interior design won't change radically compared to the current model that’s on sale. The hatchback is expected to have bolstered sport seats, a flat-bottom steering wheel, red accents, and a stubby shifter.

The global version of the 2025 Volkswagen GTI will be available with a 10.4- or a 12.9-inch touchscreen. We suspect that VW will only offer the 2025 GTI in the U.S. with the larger 12.9-inch screen. A 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster is also expected to be standard. One thing we know for sure is that the GTI’s new infotainment system will feature ChatGPT for its IDA voice assistant.

2025 Volkswagen GTI Engine & Specs

At the moment, we know that the European 2025 Volkswagen GTI will come with an upgraded engine. The GTI will be powered by the same turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that makes 262 horsepower. We don’t know how much power the U.S. version of the GTI will have.

Volkswagen has confirmed that the 2025 GTI will only be available with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. The automaker has discontinued the six-speed manual for the new model year.

2025 Volkswagen GTI Safety

We don’t know what kind of safety features the 2025 Volkswagen GTI will come with, but the current model comes packed with equipment. The current GTI comes with forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, pedestrian and cyclist detection, blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane keeping assist, lane departure warning, adaptive cruise control, parking sensors, and a highway driver-assist system. Available safety features include park assist and traffic sign recognition.

2025 Volkswagen GTI Price

Information on how much the 2025 Volkswagen GTI costs is not available yet. We expect the hatchback to cost more than the current model's MSRP which starts at $33,190.

Competitors in the segment include the Honda Civic Si, Hyundai Elantra N, Toyota GR Corolla, and Subaru WRX.

2025 Volkswagen GTI Release Date

Volkswagen has not announced when the 2025 Golf GTI will go on sale in the U.S. The compact hatchback could arrive before the end of 2024. More information on the compact hatchback should become available within the next few months.
