Model Preview

The current iteration of the Mercedes-Benz GLS-Class has been in production since 2019. The flagship SUV was refreshed for the 2024 model year, but there are reports that it will receive a full redesign for the 2026 model year. Reports are still unconfirmed and we currently have more questions than answers, but here's what we know so far about the redesigned 2026 Mercedes-Benz GLS-Class.

Even though it was just updated with a revised grille design and more power, Automotive News anticipates the GLS receiving a comprehensive redesign for the 2026 model year. We don't know what the next-generation GLS will look like yet. Mercedes tends not to make radical styling changes to their SUVs, but there is a chance we'll see a more streamlined futuristic design to make the gas-burning GLS more harmonious with electric models like the EQS-Class.

As with the exterior, he haven't yet caught a glimpse of the 2026 GLS' interior. The current model's cabin is quite a luxurious place to be, with a plentiful array of technology and premium materials. As was previously mentioned with the exterior, we may see Mercedes go with a more ultramodern screen-heavy aesthetic for the 2026 GLS' cabin. The 2024 GLS is no slouch in that department though, featuring a pair of 12.3" screens that run a built-in virtual assistant. Other standard tech goodies include wireless smartphone connectivity, navigation, and a WiFi hotspot, and we wouldn't be surprised if the redesign ushers in more standard features.

Mercedes hasn't released powertrain details for the redesigned GLS yet, but we think there's a chance the recently revamped engines in the 2024 model will continue into the next generation. The base engine is currently a turbocharged 3.0L straight-six mild-hybrid that saw its output boosted to 375 hp.

We're a little less sure about the 510-hp twin-turbocharged V8 mild-hybrid sticking around, but we'll know more closer to the 2026 GLS' release. This same engine is tuned to churn out a healthy 603 hp in the GLS63 AMG. We wouldn't be surprised if a plug-in hybrid to joins the engine lineup as well.

We don't know when we'll see the 2026 GLS yet, or what it will cost. GLS pricing currently starts at $88,150 for the GLS450 and ranges up to over $140,000 for the GLS63 AMG.

The 2026 Mercedes-Benz GLS-Class will compete with the BMW X7, Audi Q7, Land Rover Range Rover, Cadillac Escalade, and Lincoln Navigator.
