2026 Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport Redesign Info & Release Date

The 2026 Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport will likely be a total redesign according to sources. The current Atlas Cross Sport received a comprehensive update for 2024, so we expect several features to carry over to the new model. This midsize crossover debuted in the U.S. in 2020.

While Volkswagen is planning to convert its entire line to electric power, we don't anticipate the Atlas Cross Sport line will go fully electric by 2026. It's currently powered by a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder that was revised for 2024 with more power and a tad better efficiency.

The previously optional gas V6 was recently dropped. It's likely the updated 2.0-liter will be used in the 2026 Atlas family. The engine may adopt mild hybrid technology to bolster efficiency. A plug-in hybrid variant is also possible as a bridge to future electric propulsion. We expect the Atlas Cross Sport to retain its available all-wheel-drive system and 5,000-pound towing capacity.

The two-row Atlas Cross Sport has served as the brand sporty midsize for buyers who don't need seven-passenger seating or cavernous cargo space. Even so, the current model offers 40.3 cubic feet of cargo space behind the rear seat and a healthy 77.8 cubic feet with it folded. The 2026 Atlas Cross Sport will likely stay close to its predecessor in overall size and market position.

The Atlas Cross Sport already features a tech-heavy interior with a 12-inch touchscreen, digital instrument screen, and wireless charging. For 2026, we expect to see evolutionary changes like larger and more colorful displays. It's possible navigation will become standard, but high-end features Harman Kardon sound, and a head-up display will probably be reserved for the higher trim levels.

The newly standard IQ.Drive suite of safety features will almost certainly make its way into the 2026 Atlas Cross Sport. The bundle currently includes adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, blind spot monitoring, and automatic emergency braking. More sophisticated technology like surround-view cameras and automated parking will probably remain optional.
