Expert Rating

Not Available

Unlike other websites and magazines, our ratings are not based solely on a singular road test, but rather a more encompassing batch of criteria: quality, safety, comfort, performance, fuel economy, reliability history and value. When comparing vehicles using our Rating System, it's important to note that the rating earned by each vehicle correlates only to the models within its class. For example, a compact car cannot be compared to a SUV—They are different vehicles altogether.

You can interpret our ratings in the following way:

5-Star: Outstanding vehicle. Only the most exceptional vehicles achieve this rating.

4-Star: Very Good vehicle. Very good and close to being the best vehicle in its class.

3-Star: Good vehicle. Decent, but not quite the best. Often affordable, but lacking key features found in vehicles of the same class.

2-Star: Below average vehicle. Not recommended, and lacking attributes a car buyer would come to expect for the price.

1-Star: Poor vehicle. Simply does not deserve to be on the road.

2022 Alfa Romeo Stelvio Overview

Matthew Pilgrim
Automotive Editor - November 22, 2021

What's New

The 2022 Alfa Romeo Stelvio receives an updated trim lineup where the Veloce replaces the Ti Sport, and there are newly-standard features such as heated seats, navigation, and a wireless charging pad.

Choosing Your Alfa Romeo Stelvio

There are four trims available for the Stelvio SUV: Sprint, Ti, Veloce, and Quadrifoglio. Prices range from $46,645 to $86,245.

Engine Choices

The typical Stelvio is powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that generates 280 horsepower and 306 pound-feet of torque. Rear-wheel drive is standard on the Sprint while all other trims are equipped with all-wheel drive. AWD is a $2,000 option on the Sprint.

The high-performance Quadrifoglio trim is equipped with a Ferrari-designed 2.9-liter turbocharged V6 that produces 505 horsepower and 443 pound-feet of torque. Both engines are mated to an eight-speed transmission and the Quadrifoglio gains a torque-vectoring rear differential.

The Stelvio achieves an EPA-estimated 22 miles per gallon city, 28 mpg highway, and 24 combined. The Quadrifoglio’s added power (and other chassis changes) reduces those ratings to 17/23/19 combined.

Passenger and Cargo Capacity

The Stelvio is equipped to haul five passengers and sits 185 inches long and rides on a 110.9-inch wheelbase. The extended fender flairs of the Quadrifoglio add another two inches to the standard model’s 74.9-inch width.

Inside, rear-seat passengers are left with just 31.9 inches of rear legroom which is on par with the Porsche Macan but more than five inches less than what the Genesis GV70 offers. Cargo room is a similar story as the Stelvio’s 18.5 cubic feet of space is less than the Audi Q5 Sportback and the INFINITI QX55 which both prioritize styling over trunk space. With both seats folded, the capacity expands to 56.3 cubic feet.

The Stelvio has eight inches of ground clearance, which is typical for the class.

Safety Features

All Stelvio trims are equipped with the most critical active safety features such as automatic emergency braking, blind-spot detection, lane departure warning, and active cruise control.

Available on the Ti-and-up trims, the Active Assistant Plus Package for $1,000 includes highway driving assist with lane centering, lane-keep assist, blind-spot detection with steering intervention, and traffic sign recognition.

The Stelvio has not been rated by IIHS or NHTSA.

Connectivity

The Stelvio is equipped with an 8.8-inch infotainment touchscreen that incorporates Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, SiriusXM, and HD radio compatibility. A Wi-fi hotspot and Alfa Romeo’s mobile connectivity are also included.

There is a wireless charging pad and three USB ports up front and two in the rear. Sound is produced through eight speakers while a Harman Kardon 14-speaker 900-watt 12-channel sound system is available on the Ti and Veloce trims and standard on the Quadrifoglio.

Stelvio Sprint - MSRP From $46,645

The base trim is impressively equipped with a long list of standard features. The exterior features 18-inch wheels, adaptive headlights, LED daytime running lights, taillights, and rear fog lights, body-colored power-folding heated mirrors with integrated turn signals, black roof rails, a power tailgate, rain-sensing wipers, an acoustic windshield and front windows, and proximity entry.

The interior is also impressive with features such as black leather seats that feature 10-way power adjustability with memory for the driver, a leather-wrapped instrument panel with contrast stitching, dual-zone automatic climate control with an air quality sensor, heated front and rear seats, LED interior lighting, a seven-inch digital driver information display, aluminum pedals, and one-touch up/down windows.

Red sport seats are available for $600 and add power bolsters and cushion extensions and a dual-pane sunroof is offered for $1,350.

Stelvio Ti - MSRP From $51,695

The Ti trim adds the dual-pane sunroof, 19-inch wheels, and oak wood interior trim. Most notably, it offers the Premium Interior and Sound Package ($1,800) that includes upgraded audio and expanded leather surfaces.

Stelvio Veloce - MSRP From $53,495

The Veloce trim adds sportier styling that begins with body-colored fender arches, rocker panels, and lower bumper trim and continues with gloss black door mirrors, which gain auto-dim functionality, gloss black exterior trim, 20-inch wheels, and red brake calipers. The interior gains sport seats and aluminum interior trim.

Stelvio Quadrifoglio - MSRP From $86,245

The big jump in price is justified by a host of serious performance improvements. Going beyond the powertrain upgrades, the Quadrifoglio includes unique front fascia with functional air intakes, a unique grille, heat extractors on the hood, special rocker panels, quad outlets with an active by-pass valve, a unique rear bumper, a chassis domain control system that incorporates a Race Mode dynamic setting, larger Brembo brakes, performance-tuned adaptive dampers, and high-performance tires.

The interior is dressed with carbon fiber interior trim, a sport steering wheel with Alcantara inserts, a carbon-fiber bezel with a Quadrifoglio logo, and a red engine start button, unique door sill plates, floor mats, and sport seats - which can be upgraded to Sparco race seats with Alcantara seating surfaces (also on the rear seats) and a carbon fiber seatback for $3,500. The premium stereo is standard but the dual-pane sunroof is a $1,350 option.

CarsDirect Tip

If speed is your priority, the Quadrifoglio is an amazing performer but for most, the Ti trim with the Active Assistant Plus Package brings unique Italian flair to a crowded segment.
