Getting any type of car loan with bad credit can be a struggle, and trucks can be even tougher to get due to their high sticker prices – but not all hope is lost. Some automakers offer deals that can give bad credit borrowers a shot at a brand new truck, and there are auto lenders that assist borrowers with credit challenges.

Bad Credit Auto Loans for a Truck

Historically, bad credit borrowers can have a rough time landing a used car loan, loans for brand new vehicles, and other types of new credit in general. This is due to the fact that lenders use your credit score as a way to judge your eligibility as a borrower; your credit score can weigh heavily on lending decisions.

Auto loans for trucks can be especially difficult to qualify for with bad credit, due to their higher loan amounts. The average selling price for a new light truck is around $40,000 – that’s not chump change. Loan amounts this high, usually lead to a high monthly payment, which can be more difficult to handle for borrowers struggling with credit challenges. This can make some lenders leery of making these loans to bad credit borrowers.

Subprime lenders, though, can offer bad credit borrowers a higher chance of auto loan eligibility since they specialize in assisting borrowers with credit challenges. Additionally, there are some deals bad credit borrowers may be eligible for offered by some automakers' captive lenders, as well. While not common, these deals crop up from time to time such as the latest financing deal through Ford Motor Credit for new Ford Maverick models.

New Truck Deals for Bad Credit Borrowers

The Maverick Model Launch Program, which is offered from September 22, 2021 to March 31, 2022, opens up the opportunity for some bad credit borrowers to qualify for loan approval on new Ford Maverick models.

Traditionally, borrowers with credit scores below 670 are considered bad credit borrowers, and borrowers in this range can struggle to meet the requirements of captive lenders. However, this new Maverick launch program has a credit score minimum of 620 for all contract participants.

Other requirements for the Maverick Model Launch Program include:

Opportunities like this are rare. Many captive lenders have strict credit score requirements, often requiring top-tier credit scores to qualify for brand new financing. If your credit score is suffering, but you’re able to afford a brand new truck, then researching special financing programs like this could be the ticket.

The Ford Maverick is just one example of a program that gives bad credit borrowers the opportunity to score a new truck. However, borrowers with tarnished credit histories with negative marks such as a past repo, an active bankruptcy, or other serious marks may not qualify.
