When you struggle with bad credit, it can be difficult to get the things you need in life, like a car loan, especially if you stick to traditional methods like direct loans or dealerships. If you've been rejected for an auto loan through these methods, you can still get the vehicle you need by going to a buy here pay here (BHPH) lot.

BHPH Dealers are Different

If you can't get financing through a traditional dealer and worry about having your credit checked, a BHPH might be right for you. Buy here pay here dealerships generally don't perform credit checks, because they don't rely on outside lenders to finance you. BHPH dealers are in-house financiers, meaning they fund the loans themselves.

Because they don't need to prove your creditworthiness to any outside sources, BHPH dealerships are free to focus on other factors – like your job and income. As long as you can afford to make payments, you're typically able to get financed at a buy here pay here lot.

When it comes to payments, you usually make them according to your pay schedule, either weekly or biweekly. You also have to do this in person at the dealer, as the "pay here" part of the name implies. One other thing to know is that a down payment is always required at a BHPH dealership, but the amount needed varies by dealer and vehicle.

The Vehicles You Need

When you're purchasing a car from a buy here pay here dealership, you're not likely to find your dream vehicle, or even the latest models. That doesn't mean these cars are unreliable, it just means they're typically older used vehicles. Because of this, the cars you find at a BHPH dealer also tend to have higher mileage, so it's a good idea to get the vehicle inspected by a trusted mechanic before you buy.

One More Option to Consider

Just because you have poor credit, however, doesn't mean a BHPH dealership is your only option. There are lenders available that deal specifically with people who struggle with bad credit, no credit, and even bankruptcy. These lenders are called subprime lenders, and they work exclusively through special finance dealers.

These dealerships may not advertise their subprime lenders, and can be hard to find by trial and error. That's where CarsDirect comes in. We work with a nationwide network of special finance dealers that have these lenders available, and we can help take the hassle out of finding one in your area.

Just fill out our easy, free, and no-obligation car loan request form, and we'll get to work matching you with a local dealership.
