This gives Lexus a three-row crossover offering.

This week at the Chicago Auto Show, Lexus introduced the RX 450hL, a hybrid version of its three-row variant of the RX crossover the automaker launched late last year in Los Angeles. Customers can begin placing orders in April with prices starting at $51,615 (prices include destination charges).

Compared to the standard RX 350L, the 450hL is $2,950 more expensive. However, the 450hL comes with all-wheel drive as standard while the RX 350L is front-wheel drive. Add all-wheel drive to the RX 350L, and the price difference narrows to only $1,550.

A 3.5-liter V6 and two electric motors power the 450hL, making a combined 308 horsepower – more than the 290 hp in the RX 350L, which uses the same engine but is free of batteries. The EPA rates the 450hL as returning 31 miles per gallon city, 28 mpg highway, and 30 mpg combined, which is the same fuel economy as the two-row RX 450h.

Inside, the second row gets captain's chairs to provide easier access to the third row, but a bench seat is available. A Luxury Package is available for an additional $3,935, which adds wood trim, 20-inch alloy wheels, rear door sunshades, LED ambient lighting package, and semi-aniline leather.
