The Buick LaCrosse and Enclave both come in a luxurious model with a high-end Avenir trim. Buick is expanding the range-topping Avenir trim to another vehicle in its lineup: the 2019 Regal. As of writing, the new range-topping Avenir trim will be available on the Regal Sportback and will go on sale later this fall.

Just like the other Avenir offerings in the stable, the Regal's new top-of-the-line trim gets a host of exterior and interior touches that make it more luxurious than others. Bespoke interior details for the Avenir trim include diamond quilt-stitched front seats, embroidered first-row headrests, Avenir-scripted sill plates, as well as a Whisper Beige or Ebony interior theme with Ebony accents.

The Regal Avenir is also the first vehicle in Buick's lineup to come with the automaker's first cloud-connected infotainment system. The system gives users access to new apps and brings enhanced navigation, voice recognition, applications, and profiles. Buick claims the system is highly customizable and users that do personalize the system can transfer that profile to another compatible vehicle.

The changes are harder to notice on the outside where the Regal Avenir benefits from a unique grille, Avenir badges, and 19-inch wheels. Power still comes from a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder that makes 250 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque. The inline-four is paired to a nine-speed automatic transmission. Front-wheel drive is standard, as well.

High-tech safety features have been added to the Regal Avenir as standard. These include things like blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane change alert, rear park assist, and auto-leveling LED headlights. Adaptive cruise control is available.

Pricing will be announced later this year before the model reaches dealers. Without pricing to go off, it's difficult to see how the Regal Avenir stacks up to the competition. The trim's technology features aren't exactly noteworthy, as nearly every other option in the mid-size segment either comes with them or has an available package that adds them on. And we're not too sure if the other features are enough to set the Avenir trim apart from competitors.

The Honda Accord, Toyota Camry, and Hyundai Sonata don't have luxury-first trims, but the Ford Fusion and Mazda6 do. The Fusion Platinum has premium leather seats, bright scuff plates, a premium leather-wrapped steering wheel, and 19-inch wheels. The Mazda6 is available in a Signature trim that comes with unique stitching on the steering wheel, Nappa leather-trimmed sport seats, Sen Wood door trim, and 19-inch wheels. Both sound awfully similar to the Regal Avenir.

The Fusion Platinum costs $37,885, while the Mazda6 Signature is priced at $35,645 (both prices include destination). If Buick prices the Regal Avenir in the same ballpark, it wouldn't set itself apart, but in the same league.
